The WWE Network has allowed fans to watch hours upon hours of content for the lowly price of 9.99. It’s continually grown in membership and content since it’s launch in January 2014 and now the WWE could be expanding it even further.

According to numerous reports, the WWE sent out a survey to fans regarding a new, tiered membership system for their WWE Network subscriptions. The normal 9.99 option could stay but there could also be limited and cheaper options available to fans.

These would include a free option and a 4.99 option that would limit the amount of content that could be watched on that account. It would also only include the ‘big four’ pay-per-views instead of every WWE pay-per-view.

But the most startling option to come from this survey is the 14.99 option. This has been the option that has been rumoured for some time now and would include extra content and perks for subscribers. It also includes the potential to watch ‘Independent content’ such as Ring of Honor and TNA

It has been rumoured for a number of weeks that the WWE is interested in acquiring either TNA the company or it’s tape library and this new survey option only adds fuel to that fire.

Breaking down the options

The new survey sent out by the WWE lists four payment tiers for WWE Network subscriptions. These options are: Free, 4.99, 9.99 and 14.99.

Free access would include only short network clips with a five-hour cap on viewing content. It would not feature any live pay-per-view events, no NXT, no Cruiserweight Classic and would feature plenty of commercials.

The 4.99 option would only be available to watch on phones and tablets. It would only feature the big four pay-per-views - WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series and the Royal Rumble. This option would be able to watch NXT, but not live on a Wednesday. You also wouldn’t have access to the CWC and future Cruiserweight content.

The 9.99 option would not change from the option that is currently offered. It would also include the new weekly Cruiserweight Content and weekly live NXT shows.

The 14.99 option would everything that is listed above but would also include ‘Independent content’ such as Ring of Honor and TNA. Fans would also be able to vote for the WWE Hall of Fame and be able to purchase tickets before they are available to the public, also even ahead of the WWE local pre-sales.

All roads lead to the WWE

The option to watch TNA and ROH on the WWE Network has confused and intrigued the WWE Universe. Has the WWE finally acquired TNA or it’s tape library? Quite possibly, but what about Ring of Honor?

In the past, it’s been rumoured that the WWE was interested in acquiring more ROH content for CM Punk and Daniel Bryan documentaries but had been limited in what they were able to acquire.

Now, with an increase of former ROH wrestlers moving to the WWE, it makes sense that they would like to acquire more content on these superstars so that newer fans are able to see their work outside of the WWE.

It also brings up questions about ROH’s ability to work with New Japan. The WWE reportedly offered New Japan a chance to have their content on the WWE Network prior to its launch but were turned down after fears they could be angling to take a number of top New Japan wrestlers.
