Coached by Mike Brown, a veteran NBA coach and current assistant to Steve Kerr at the Golden State Warriors, the Nigerian team also has a squad mostly made up of players who play in the NBA, and has as one of the standouts the young wing Josh Okogie of the Minnessota Timberwolves.

Filled with players who play in the NBA, the 12 players who will compete in another Olympics for the Boomers have hopes of leaving Tokyo with a medal on their chest. One of the newcomers is young shooting guard Matisse Thybulle, from the Philadelphia 76ers.

The two teams met on July 14, and the Boomers won 108-69. The Australian team also faced the United States, where they also won by 91-83. The Nigerian team also defeated the powerful North American team, 90-87, and did not take Argentina into consideration, winning by 94-71.

In the last Olympics, Australia had a great performance, falling only behind the United States in Group A, but to Serbia in the semifinals. In the third place match, they lost by one point to Spain, ending their participation without a medal. Nigeria, on the other hand, won only one match, against Croatia, and finished last in Group B, which included Brazil.
