YAMAL VS. ENDRICK

One is only 17, the other 16. They are still teenagers, but they are already shining for their clubs and are seen as possible stars of the future in their national teams. The friendly between Brazil and Spain this Tuesday in Madrid could mark the first meeting between Endrick and Lamine Yamal.

March 26, 2024 4:22 PM ET

Dorival

"We sent each player some material trying to guide them towards certain behaviors on the pitch that we thought were important. On arrival, when we met them, we confirmed everything we had imagined. A very good group. Maybe some of them won't get the chance to play on the pitch, but you can be sure that it's been a very important 10 days to get to know them, which will be fundamental for the next call-ups," said the coach about the national team's preparation.

Spain - Coach: Luis de la Fuente

After a few tests in their last friendly against Colombia, the "Fúria" should field their best players this afternoon in one of their last challenges before the European Championship.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been reintegrated into the Spanish squad after missing training due to family problems. He is expected to start against Brazil.

March 26, 2024 4:04 PM ET

Who's out:

Ederson, Gabriel Magalhães, Marquinhos, Casemiro e Gabriel Martinelli (injury).

March 26, 2024 3:57 PM ET

Brazil - coach: Dorival Júnior

On the eve of the friendly, Dorival said he had practiced two different formations, but said that the decision on the 11 that will start the match will only be made hours before the game.

This is because the coach is concerned about the wear and tear on some players and fears that the Seleção will not be able to maintain their physical intensity if they use the same line-up that beat England.

Despite the mystery, Dorival has already confirmed that Endrick, scorer of the winning goal in the last match, will not start on Tuesday.

March 26, 2024 3:56 PM ET

Last meeting

The last meeting between the teams (professional, not including lower categories or the Olympic Games) was in the final of the Confederations Cup in 2013, when Brazil won 3-0.

The overall record is nine meetings, with five wins for Brazil, two draws and two defeats.

March 26, 2024 3:55 PM ET

Fifa Ranking

Fifth in the Fifa rankings, Brazil are looking to consolidate their recovery in their second match under Dorival Júnior. Before beating England, the Seleção had suffered three consecutive defeats.

Spain, the eighth best team in the world according to FIFA criteria, suffered a 1-0 defeat to Colombia last Friday.

March 26, 2024 3:18 PM ET

Teams

Spain suffered a thoroughly disappointing result in their last friendly match. Colombia won 1-0 and snapped Spain's unbeaten run of eight consecutive wins.

Even so, it's worth noting that Luis de la Fuente's side performed almost perfectly in the UEFA European Championship qualifiers, winning seven of their eight matches.

Brazil made their debut under a new coach the last time they took to the field. With Dorival Júnior adopting a more attacking style of play, they produced an impressive result against England.

Playing with the crowd against them at Wembley Stadium, they struggled to create clear goalscoring opportunities, as did their opponents. Nevertheless, they won 1-0 thanks to Endrick's goal.

March 26, 2024 3:13 PM ET

A game of few goals

The main technical reference for the Brazilian team, Vini Júnior played almost the entire match against England and had two shots in total. The trend is for the No. 7 to be a starter again, even more so playing at home in the Santiago Bernabéu.

Spain have only managed to score more goals against smaller teams. In five of Brazil's last six games there have been no more than two goals. Therefore, our final bet suggests a low-scoring encounter, with no more than two goals in the net.

March 26, 2024 3:08 PM ET

Brazil

Brazil, meanwhile, overcame a negative run of three straight defeats on the debut of their new coach, Dorival Júnior. Although sixth place in the World Cup Qualifiers is still somewhat worrying, the Canarinho team achieved a huge result in their last match to open the FIFA World Cup.

Last Saturday, Brazil faced England at a packed Wembley, and saw youngster Endrick score the only goal of the game ten minutes after replacing Rodrygo. In addition to the result, the Brazilian team had more shots on goal than the hosts (five against three), and had more clear chances throughout the match (seven against one).

Dorival Júnior is widely expected to field the same line-up as against England. However, Endrick's decisive goal has left the Palmeiras youngster highly rated by the coaching staff. All the more so because he created other dangerous chances for Brazil. As a result, the 17-year-old is now competing with Raphinha for a place in Real Madrid's attacking trio of the future with Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo.

March 26, 2024 3:03 PM ET

Spain

Spain had an excellent campaign in the Euro Cup Qualifiers and are preparing for the tournament in Germany. Despite losing 2-0 to Scotland, they finished top of Group A with 21 points, four ahead of the Scots. In all, they scored 25 goals, the third best attack of the group stage.

With qualification secured well in advance, coach Luis de la Fuente has used the latest call-ups to try out a few names. Last Friday, Spain faced Colombia with a practically reserve team and lost 1-0, Muñoz scoring the winner. The tendency is for De la Fuente to use something closer to his ideal formation against Brazil at home.

March 26, 2024 2:58 PM ET

TIME AND PLACE!

This Tuesday (26), Brazil return to the field, this time against Spain, at 17:30. The two teams meet in a friendly at the Santiago Bernabéu. In their last match, Brazil beat England 1-0, with a goal from 17-year-old striker Endrick. Spain, meanwhile, lost 1-0 to Colombia in their first friendly.

Brazil are going through a bit of a makeover, having hired former São Paulo coach Dorival Júnior, the national team is still in the process of adapting and has a lot of young players who are only in their first call-up to the senior national team. Spain also have some very young players who have yet to be polished.

Both teams are looking for a win, because it won't just be a victory, it will be a great assessment of their young players, and in Brazil's case it will already be a great test for the new coaching staff. It's also a friendly match for equality, in support of young Real Madrid and Brazil striker Vinicius Junior, who has suffered many racist attacks in recent La Liga matches.
