April Ross is looking to add her third medal to her personal tally after winning silver at London 2012 and bronze at Rio de Janeiro 2016.

According to bookmakers in the United States, the American pair is the favorite to win the gold medal, followed by Australia, Switzerland and Latvia.

The United States is undefeated in the championship and will be looking to continue the same trend.

The Swiss pair of Verge-Depre and Heidrich started the tournament well by beating Germany and the Netherlands, but were surprised at the end of the group stage by Canada, which is why they faced their compatriots Huberli and Betschart in the quarterfinals, whom they defeated in a close 2-1 match with scores of 21-12, 19-21 and 23-21.

The American pair formed by April and Alix has been unbeatable in their passage to this stage by defeating China, Spain and Holland in the group stage, in addition to winning in the quarterfinals against the Cuban pair Lidy and Leila by a score of 2-0; so far in the championship they have only lost one set, which was against Holland and they ended up winning that game in three sets.

The other semifinal will be played immediately after this one when Australia with Artacho del Solra and Nanci will face the Latvian couple Graudina and Kravcenoka.

Shiokase Park will be the venue to host all the beach volleyball games for both men and women, which was built for this Olympic Games and can hold up to 12 thousand spectators, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it will be held behind closed doors.
