Salò
Already known in Roman times, Salò has always played a crucial role in the history of Lake Garda and Italy.
Traces of its rich past are still evident today, and a stroll through the historic center between Piazza Carmine, the 'Fossa' and the lakeshore reveals ancient manor houses and elegant 17th century palaces that bear witness to the city's historical chapters of great artistic and cultural importance.
Walking through the narrow streets and small squares, there are many fine stores, restaurants, bars, inns and hotels available to tourists.
During the summer season there are a series of events with classical music and jazz performed live, the flower and plant exhibition, high-level sporting events and many other initiatives but, above all, the traditional International Violin Festival Gasparo da Salò, which reaches its 64th edition and is one of the oldest and most famous summer festivals in Italy.
