For the first time ever, “The Amazing Race” will be visiting Zimbabwe and Rotterdam. The 27th season of the show is set to premiere its new season on Friday, September 25th on CBS. This season, the contestants will be visiting the Batoka Gorge in Zimbabwe as well as visiting the “Gateway to Europe” for the first time ever.
A little more about Zimbabwe and Rotterdam
Back in season one, teams visited the Batoka Gorge, but that was in Zambia. This time, it will be in Zimbabwe. The Batoka Gorge is a dam on the Zambezi River which is located on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Gorge is located on the downof Victoria Falls, which is also on the Zambia and Zimbabwe border, and was named after Queen Victoria. It is classified as the largest waterfall in the world based on its width (5604 feet) and height (354 feet).
Zimbabwe is the 26th largest country in Africa and the 60th largest country in the world based on size. It’s current population is just over 13 million and its largest city is its capital, Harare. It declared its independence from Great Britain in 1965 but was not recognized until 1980. It is a landlocked country surrounded by South Africa to the south, Botswana to the west, Zambia to the northwest, and Mozambique to the east.
Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands after Amsterdam. The city contains the largest port in Europe, 10th largest in the world, and has success because of where it is based on the North Sea. This is not the first time “The Amazing Race” has gone to the Netherlands. “The Amazing Race” has visited the Netherlands. It has been there five times, with the most recent one being last season when contestants visited Amsterdam where the contestants completed a Detour.

The season 27 contestants will be visiting these places in their race around the world for one million dollars: Agra, India, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Hong Kong/Macau, China, Krakow, Poland, Long Island, New York, Paris, France, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Rotterdam, Netherlands, San Antonio de Areco, Argentina, Victoria Falls, Zambia, Batoka Gorge, Zimbabwe.
