The Detroit Pistons have announced that newly signed shooting guard Jodie Meeks will miss approximately 8 weeks due to a stress reaction of the lower back. The team conducted a CAT scan on Meeks on Monday, October 13, and discovered the injury.

Meeks has played in only one game during the preseason. He has sat out all of Detroit’s other games due to back spasms and underwent additional tests on his back. At the end of the 8 week period, Meeks will be re-evaluated again.

In Meeks’ absence, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope figures to start at the shooting guard position, once he returns from his own injury that will keep him out three games. Caldwell-Pope has played terrific in two starts for the Pistons, averaging 16.0 points per game.

Jodie Meeks put in career-highs of 15.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals last season with the Los Angeles Lakers and signed a three-year, $18 million deal with the Pistons this off-season. He is expected to be a huge part of the team this season, but this injury will set him back for over a month during the regular season.

The season has yet to start, and injuries are already piling up in the NBA. Nick Young, Kris Humphries, Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant, and several more have already suffered major injuries.
