On Thursday evening, the NBA All-Star reserves were announced on TNT. Which players made the team and which players were snubbed?

For the West, Chris Paul, James Harden, Klay Thompson, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Tim Duncan, and LaMarcus Aldridge have been selected as All-Star game reserves. For the East, Jeff Teague, Dwyane Wade, Kyrie Irving, Jimmy Butler, Paul Millsap, Chris Bosh, and Al Horford have been selected as All-Star game reserves.

Chris Paul, who is averaging 17.5 points, 9.7 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.9 steals, has made the team for the eighth time in his career. He will join his teammate Blake Griffin, who is a starter, on the team.

For James Harden, this is his fourth appearance on the team. He is having an MVP-type season, averaging career-highs of 27.3 points, 6.8 assists, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 0.8 blocks. He leads the league in scoring and is number one in assists amongst shooting guards.

Russell Westbrook, who has missed 14 games this season due to a hand injury, makes it for the fourth time in his career. He is averaging a career-best 25.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.3 steals to go with 7.5 assists.

Klay Thompson is a first-time All-Star, as he is having himself an excellent season. He, too, is averaging a career-high in scoring with 23.0 points per game. Thompson most recently set an NBA record for most points in a quarter with 37. In that game, he finished with 52 points, and he has also had two 40-plus point games.

Kevin Durant has missed more than half of the season with multiple injuries, but the reigning MVP still makes the All-Star team for the sixth time. In limited game action, he is averaging 25.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.0 blocks.

The long-time veteran Tim Duncan, who did not make the team last season, makes it for the 15th time in his Hall of Fame career.  The 38-year-old, five-time champion is averaging a double-double with 14.7 points and 10.1 rebounds to go with 2.0 blocks per game.

Lastly, LaMarcus Aldridge makes it for the fourth time. He has carried his team to the third best record in the West by averaging 23.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks.

In the East, we have Jeff Teague making the All-Star team for the first time in his young career. He has paced the Atlanta Hawks to a 38-8 record which is second best in the entire NBA. Teague is averaging career-highs of 17.0 points, 7.5 assists, and 1.7 steals.

Kyrie Irving, last year’s All-Star game MVP, makes the team for the third time. He will join teammate LeBron James, who is a starter. Irving is averaging 22.1 points and 5.2 assists on 46.7 percent shooting from the field, including a career-high 41.3 percent shooting from three-point range.

Jimmy Butler also becomes a first-time All-Star, as he will join teammate Pau Gasol, who is a starter. Butler is having a breakout year, averaging career-highs 20.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. He is certainly the frontrunner for Most Improved Player.

Dwyane Wade becomes an 11-time All-Star, as he barely made the cut. However, Wade is currently dealing with a hamstring injury that is likely to keep him out for the All-Star game, which means that he will be replaced by another player.

Wade’s teammate Chris Bosh has also made the team, as this is going to be his 10th appearance. Bosh has upped his numbers from last season, averaging 21.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.

Paul Millsap has made it for the second consecutive year. Just like Teague, Millsap has been a huge reason why the Hawks have succeeded this season. He is putting up 17.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

Lastly, Al Horford makes the team as the third Hawk player. This will be his third appearance and the first since 2011. Horford, who missed most of last season with a chest injury, is averaging 15.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.4 blocks.

With these 14 players making the team, let’s take a look at some of the biggest snubs.

Damian Lillard was surely snubbed this year. He has helped Aldridge carry the Portland Trail Blazers every step of the way to a top three record in the West by averaging 21.8 points, 6.2 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. Luckily for Lillard, he still has a chance to make the team as the replacement of the injured Kobe Bryant.

Another Western Conference snub was DeMarcus Cousins, who is having a monster year. Cousins is averaging 23.8 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 1.4 steals, as he fills up the stat sheet on a game to game basis. Cousins is also a candidate to replace Bryant.

Finally, in the Eastern Conference, there is Kyle Korver who was snubbed. He is averaging 13.0 points on an incredible 51.8 percent shooting from the field, 53.4 percent from three-point distance, and 92.3 percent from the free-throw line. However, he could be the replacement for an injured Dwyane Wade.

Other notable snubs include Brandon Knight, Monta Ellis, Mike Conley, Dirk Nowitzki, Marcin Gortat, and Dwight Howard.

Commission Adam Silver will announce the replacements for injured players in a few days.
