According to Ray Allen’s agent Jim Tanner, the 39-year-old sharpshooter has decided not to play in the NBA this season, but he will consider returning for the 2015-2016 season.

Over the past several months, I have taken a lot of time to deliberate what is best for me,” Allen said. “I’ve ultimately decided that I will not play this NBA season. I’m going to take the remainder of this season, as well as the upcoming off-season, to reassess my situation, spend time with my family and determine if I will play in the 2015-16 season,” Allen added.

The 18-year pro had been drawing a lot of interest around the NBA from teams such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, Washington Wizards, Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, and a few others.

Ray has received enormous interest from a number of NBA teams throughout the season,” agent Jim Tanner said. “We will communicate with interested teams as Ray makes a decision for the 2015-16 season.

Allen played last season for the Miami Heat and averaged 9.6 points and 2.8 rebounds on 44.2 percent shooting. He has also spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks, Seattle SuperSonics, and Boston Celtics throughout his career.

Ray Allen will be 40 years old by the time the 2015-16 season begins, but he is still in good shape and would provide sufficient three-point shooting off the bench for any of the contending teams mentioned above.
