New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has certainly had a successful career. Anthony has won a scoring title, been elected to eight All-Star games, and was selected third overall in one of the most talented draft's ever. However, Anthony has done very little winning throughout his NBA career. According to Jared Dudley, that makes Anthony the most overrated player in the NBA.
“I would say Carmelo,” said Dudley when asked the question by ESPN host Colin Cowherd. “The reason why I say Carmelo is that he’s viewed as a top-five player…”
After Cowherd questioned "who says that" about Anthony, Dudley gave an explanation for his claim.
“He has the talent to be able to [facilitate],” Dudley continued. “The triangle should fit him. He’s gotta make guys better, and defensively, you know what, he’s gotta [go to the next level]. He’s gotta get out of the first and second round. He’s gotta get this team to the playoffs. LeBron [James] with that roster would have gotten to the playoffs. They would have been at least an eight seed. He’s not LeBron, but he doesn’t have to be…”
The Knicks finished a franchise-worst 17-65 last season, with Anthony undergoing season-ending knee surgery in February. While J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert were traded to Cleveland with little return in January and now are headed to the NBA Finals with LeBron James and the Cavaliers. Former Knicks Amar'e Stoudemire and Pablo Prigioni also both made the playoffs with their new teams.
Dudley said that he feels Zach Randolph is the most underrated player in the NBA.
“Zach’s an animal. [He averages] 20 [points] and 10 [rebounds] [in his] career,” Dudley said.
