After signing Amir Johnson and re-signing Jonas Jerebko, the next order of business for the Boston Celtics was to retain Jae Crowder.

Crowder, 24, has agreed to re-sign a five-year, $35 million contract with the Celtics, Shams Charania of RealGM reports.

This was a magnificent move by Boston, as Crowder proved himself worthy in 57 games played for the C’s. He averaged 9.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in 24.2 minutes per game. Crowder further demonstrated his skills during the postseason when he averaged 10.8 points and 5.0 rebounds on 51.7 percent shooting from the field.

In addition to his offensive game, Crowder showed a lot of grit and hustle on the defensive end. He is a blue-collared player who is going to give 100 percent effort every time he is on the floor. For the Celtics to lock him in for $7 million annually, they made a bargain deal.

Crowder was acquired from the Dallas Mavericks midway through the season as part of the blockbuster Rajon Rondo deal. His fine play earned him the starting small forward role, which is what he will continue to play in the upcoming season.

In addition to Boston, the Mavericks were interested in bringing back Crowder, but they are currently more focused on luring DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews.

Brandon Bass and Gigi Datome are the final two Celtics free agents still on the market. However, Bass is being pursued by eight teams not named Boston, while Datome hasn’t drawn much interest.
