DeAndre Jordan has informed the Dallas Mavericks that he will be accepting a four-year, $81 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks as reported by Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports.

ESPN's Marc Stein initially reported that DeAndre Jordan was on the 'verge' of signing a four-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks before it was made official.

This is a big acquisition for the Dallas Mavericks and a huge blow to the Los Angeles Clippers who were confident leading up until today that Jordan would re-sign. It is believed Jordan will have an option to terminate the contract after year three.

DeAndre Jordan joins Wesley Matthews as the Mavs two big acquisitions this off-season and instantly becomes a cornerstone for the future along with Chandler Parsons. With the departures of Tyson Chandler and Monta Ellis, the Mavs needed to find adequate replacements and they did just that and got younger in the process.

A lot of credit goes to Chandler Parsons, the Mavericks' biggest free-agent signing last summer, for being able to lead the recruiting efforts in landing both Matthews and Jordan. The Mavericks are still out on the market for a point guard and need to add depth to their bench but this is a great start to the their offseason thus far.

One person close to Jordan said he was more impressed by the recruiting efforts of Nowitzki, who came off vacation to join the Mavericks contingent that held a dinner meeting with Jordan and later outlined its plans for him during a more formal 2 1/2-hour presentation. No Clippers players attended the team's pitch meeting Thursday.

The Clippers tried to sell Jordan on increased marketing opportunities as well as his potential to thrive as part of a roster bolstered by the recent acquisitions of Paul Pierce and Lance Stephenson. But Coach Doc Rivers' attempts to mend Jordan's relationship with Paul, as well as the coach's ability to shape Jordan into one of the NBA's top defenders and rebounders, apparently were not sufficient to convince Jordan he should return.

For the Los Angeles Clippers, this is a huge blow for a team that had title aspirations for the upcoming season. They lose the league's leading rebounder from last season who is also one of the premiere big men defenders in the NBA.

In the end, DeAndre Jordan chose a team that allowed him to have a bigger role within the team where he's not the third or fourth option much like he was in Los Angeles. He's also a Texas Native who attended Texas A&M University an hour north of his hometown Houston so he'll be much closer to his family.

Last season, DeAndre Jordan averaged 11.5 points, 15.0 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks, but expect those numbers to increase in Dallas.
