The starting lineups for the 2016 NBA All Star game in Toronto have been officially announced, with an array of superstars set to impress at the Air Canada Centre.
The leading vote getter was none other than future Hall of Famer, Kobe Bryant. In his 20th season, Bryant polled a total of 1,891,614 votes as the fans clearly had their way. Although retirement is imminent for Bryant after announcing in November that this would his last season in the NBA, the last two All-Star games have not featured the No. 24 from the Los Angeles Lakers due to injury.
The other standout in votes was Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, with a total of 1,604,325. Curry will be making his third straight start in the All-Star game.
If the fans wanted a fast moving, smaller lineup in the West then they got what they wanted.
The starting lineups for the Western Conference will look like this:
Position | Player | Team | ASG Apperances | Total Votes |
Guard | Stephen Curry | Golden State Warriors | 3rd | 1,604,325 |
Guard | Russell Westbrook | Oklahoma City Thunder | 5th | 772,009 |
Forward | Kobe Bryant | Los Angeles Lakers | 18th | 1,891,614 |
Forward | Kevin Durant | Oklahoma City Thunder | 7th | 980,787 |
Forward | Kawhi Leonard | San Antonio Spurs | 1st | 782,339 |
Kawhi Leonard and Russell Westbrook make their debut as a starter for the All Star game. It's hard to believe this the first time Kawhi Leonard, an NBA Finals MVP, is making his first All-Star Game appearance.
The starting lineup for the Eastern Conference will look like this:
Position | Players | Team | ASG Apperances | Total Votes |
Guard | Dwyane Wade | Miami Heat | 12th | 941,466 |
Guard | Kyle Lowry | Toronto Raptors | 2nd | 646,441 |
Forward | LeBron James | Cleveland Cavaliers | 12th | 1,089,206 |
Forward | Paul George | Indiana Pacers | 3rd | 711,595 |
Forward | Carmelo Anthony | New York Knicks | 9th | 567,348 |
Last year John Wall was the starting point guard for the East, however, the Washington Wizards win-loss record has voters favoring the host city guard Kyle Lowry. The starting point guard for the Raptors made a late surge and passed Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving at the last minute.
Every year there are snubs for the starting lineup, and this year is no different. There are three guys that initially come to mind when it comes to All-Star starter selections, and they are Draymond Green (Warriors), Jimmy Butler (Bulls) and Andre Drummond (Pistons). Coaches will fill out the reserves for each squad, and you have to figure you will see those three names securely on the team.
