Shams Charania from The Athletic has reported that Brian Shaw agreed to become the head coach of the new NBA G-League elite pro team.

The Southern California team is headlined by top high school recruits like Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd and Daishen Nix. Also, they have Kai Sotto in the roster, a 7'2 Center from the Philippines who is the first international draft prospect to sign a deal in the NBA G-League pro program.

Shaw is a former NBA player and Lakers assistant coach. He’s also a  five-time NBA champion as a player and coach with the Lakers.

The last time the 54 year-old ran a bench was in 2015, where he coached the Denver Nuggets to 66 wins in two seasons.

The new SoCal team will participate in training and exhibition games and will play around 10-12 games against existing G League teams.
