The inevitable re-building process for San Antonio is here, but one of their two stars has decided he will be coming back to the Spurs next season.

The Athletic's Shams Charania reported DeMar DeRozan has informed the franchise that he is opting into his $27.7 million player option for the 2020-21 season.

DeRozan arrived to Texas in a controversial way, being involved in the trade which landed Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green in Toronto a couple of summers ago.

So far, in his two seasons at San Antonio the four-time All-Star managed to take them to the playoffs once, where the fell to the Denver Nuggets in seven competitive games in the first round of the Western Conference. This past season, the Spurs didn't make the postseason despite being invited to the 'bubble' in Orlando, and was the first time they failed to do so since 1997.

Multiple sources have reported DeRozan may be switching teams though, as the Lakers will try to make a push for him and add him as the third star behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis

It's still unknown on whether LaMarcus Aldridge will be back at San Antonio. The 'big-man' underwent a season-ending surgery on his right shoulder which kept him out of the NBA restart in Orlando.
