Mavs to retire Nowitzki's '41' on Jan.5

Last week the Dallas Mavericks announced that they will honor the most important player in their history in a ceremony prior to the game against the Golden State Warriors on January 5.

Dirk Nowitzki, 43, spent 21 seasons with the Mavs after being selected in the 1998 Draft at No. 9. In his long career in the league, the German was a 14-time All Star, a four-time member of the best team in the league. year and NBA MVP in the 2006-2007 season. In 2011 he was named Finals MVP after leading the Mavericks to their only NBA title against the Miami Heat of LeBron, Wade and Bosh.

The legendary Mavericks player retired in 2019 after sharing a season with Luka Doncic and finished with averages of 20.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in his professional career. Much deserved tribute.

Washington Wizards

The Wizards are going through a rough patch after a good start to the season. They have lost four of their last five games and have looked terrible on the defensive end. The Wizards have struggled with turnovers, with 17 or more in each of the last four games. It's been a positive start for these ever-rebuilding Wizards, but it's games like this where they've fallen short in the past and will seek to reverse history.

Washington will look for some consistency as they try to break out of a slump. They're only averaging 108.7 points per game, but they're giving up a respectable 103.8, sixth in the NBA. How good this Washington team is remains to be seen, but if they can take advantage of the intensity of the first two weeks, they will remain competitive in the upcoming games.

Dallas Mavericks

They rank in the middle of the rankings on both defense and offense for the first 17 games. Luka Doncic has appeared in 14 games averaging 25 points, 8.4 rebounds and 8 assists. As he continues to improve his health, the 22-year-old will increase those numbers and consequently help his teammates find his best level on the floor.

Luka and the Mavericks are averaging 104.1 points per game below average, good for 23rd in the NBA. They have been playing without their two hard-core players for most of the season, so those numbers are expected to increase as the season progresses. Although they have trouble shooting, the Mavs lead the NBA with the fewest turnovers per game.

The match will be played at American Airlines Center

The American Airlines Center is a pavilion located in the Victoria Park neighborhood near downtown Dallas, Texas that is used for hockey games, basketball and concerts.

The American Airlines Center has been the home of the Dallas Mavericks since 2001. The stadium is sponsored by American Airlines, which is headquartered at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. For this reason, the stadium is nicknamed "the Hangar".
