Thunder Starting Lineup

Here are the 5 Thunder starters for this afternoon's game in Charlotte:

5:36 PM4 months ago

The Thunder have to improve their offense

Oklahoma City, meanwhile, ranks last in the NBA in points per game at 100.7 and in 3-point shooting percentage at 31.2. The Thunder have scored 97 points or fewer in six of their last 11 games.

The teams will meet again in Oklahoma City on March 14.

5:31 PM4 months ago

Hornets Strengths

The Hornets have been counting on defense to get them going and that could be a benefit against an Oklahoma City team struggling on the offensive end.

And on offense, Rozier has connected on 3.1 attempts from 3-point range per game, ranking among the top 11 in the league in that category.

The Thunder are in last place in the Western Conference Northwest Division and have won just 1 of the 9 games they have played in January. While the Hornets are in second place in the Eastern Conference Southeast Division just 4 games behind Miami. However, the Thunder have a hegemony against the Hornets by winning 9 of the last 10 games in Charlotte.

NBA afternoon this Friday at the Spectrum Center

This afternoon at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, the Hornets will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. This will be the first matchup of the season between the teams and will feature very contrasting styles. The Thunder rank last in the league in points per game and the Hornets rank last in the league in points allowed per game. Someone will have to give in this matchup and it may be based on the number of mistakes each team makes.

This is how the Oklahoma City Thunder arrives

There aren't as many encouraging signs for Oklahoma City Thunder, which has lost three straight. This will be the third contest of a four-game, six-night road trip for the Thunder, who have lost eight of their last nine games and sit last in the Northwest Division.

The Thunder dropped a 118-96 decision Wednesday night in San Antonio. But with just one win in nine January games, confidence could use a boost.

Rookie Aaron Wiggins provided a team-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting in San Antonio. Oklahoma City also received a season-high eight points from center Mamadi Diakite, who is on a 10-day contract.

This is how the Charlotte Hornets arrive

The Charlotte Hornets are coming off a 111-102 victory in Boston on Wednesday and one of the good news was that LaMelo Ball only missed one game this week. In his return to action Wednesday, Ball recorded his fourth career triple-double.

So many good things have happened for the Hornets in the last two weeks as they've beaten some of the best teams in the Eastern Conference and won six of their last seven games. They will try to build on that momentum on Friday when they take on the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This team knows it can't rest on past accomplishments, and despite the positive stats, a career-high eight turnovers against the Celtics show there's still a lot of work to be done. They felt good a week ago after two wins against the Milwaukee Bucks and a road win in Philadelphia before falling in a home loss to the Orlando Magic.

Oklahoma City Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder have had one of the toughest starts of any team in the NBA this 2022. Oddly enough, their only win came over the Brooklyn Nets, who currently sit in third place in the Eastern Conference. Even stranger is the fact that they scored 130 points in that win. As a team that ranks last in the league in scoring average, this was very strange to see and believe, however, it may be what the Thunder need to focus on the most. While their defense has been solid, ranking 13th in the entire league in points allowed, it just hasn't been a formula that works for them.

In their last loss, 118-96 at San Antonio, the Thunder failed to break the century mark for the 20th time this season. In today's NBA, it's almost impossible to get a win when you can't score more than 100 points. In the game, the team shot very little from the field and went only 8-31 from three, while also committing 14 turnovers to the Spurs' 9. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who leads the team with 22.5 points per game, had a very bad night. Rookie Aaron Wiggins led the Thunder with 19 points in the loss.

The Thunder can't afford another performance like this in Charlotte despite their historic success in that arena.

Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets have had a much better start to the year compared to their opponents on Friday night. They have also had a much more successful season thus far in the NBA. Most of its success has been based on the play of sophomore sensation LaMelo Ball. He is leading the team in assists and steals per game, while also ranking second on the team in points and tied for the lead in rebounds per game with Miles Bridges.

The Charlotte team is coming off a 111-102 victory in Boston last Wednesday. They used some shots from deep to account for almost half of their total points. The Hornets took an 8-point halftime lead and increased it to 12 heading into fourth. His excellent shooting closed out the game as Ball scored a 3 and was followed by two more by Terry Rozier as his last 9 points of the game. Ball finished with a sneaky triple-double as he grabbed his 10th rebound with just 0.2 seconds left in the game.

If the long-range shooting continues in this game, the Hornets can begin to usher in a new era between these two franchises.

The match will be played at Spectrum Center

The Spectrum Center is an indoor arena located in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. It is owned by the city of Charlotte and operated by its main tenant, the NBA's Charlotte Hornets. The arena seats 19,077 for NBA games, but can be expanded to 20,200 for college basketball games.

The arena opened on October 21, 2005 as the Time Warner Cable Arena when the naming rights were purchased in 2008. When Time Warner Cable was purchased by Charter Communications in 2016, the name was changed again to reflect the Spectrum trade name.

The arena is used for more than just sporting events, with musical acts, family productions, and many other events including concerts, circuses, and professional wrestling, among others.
