After the big news that Kevin Durant was headed to the Golden State Warriors, another coveted free agent has gone off the market. Pau Gasol has agreed to sign a two-year, 30 million dollar contract with the San Antonio Spurs according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical. Gasol will have a player option after the first year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

San Antonio’s Team

The addition of Gasol to the Spurs makes them favorites to meet the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals. The Spaniard will now get to join forces with San Antonio’s new core players in Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge. San Antonio will have one of the best frontcourts in the NBA with a trio of Leonard, Aldridge, and Gasol. He’ll also have former Spurs “Big Three” Rivals in Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Tim Duncan as his teammates.

Ginobili opted to return for another season a few days ago while Duncan decided he will also be returning for another season with a salary worth 6.3 million dollars. However, reports have come out saying the power forward was leaning towards retirement since Durant announced his decision. No word has come out yet on whether Gasol’s decision affects his choice.

The Spurs still have their roster intact from this past season. Starting shooting guard Danny Green is still on the team as well as Boris Diaw, Patty Mills, and Kyle Anderson. The team made a qualifying offer to Boban Marjanovic to make him a restricted free agent. San Antonio also drafted DeJounte Murray from Washington as well as Ryan Arcidiacono from Villanova.
