Just days after the news of Giannis Antetokounmpo's contract extension, the Milwaukee Bucks have been dealt a serious blow to their season ambitions as the franchise has confirmed that Khris Middleton has suffered a serious injury in training.

A statement has since been released on their official website, confirming that following a scan the guard has torn his hamstring, and will require surgery.

The 25-year-old is expected to be out until around March of next year, with the tear sidelining him for the best part of the regular season.

Last season Middleton averaged a career-high 18.2 points across 79 games played, whilst also adding 4.2 boards and 3.8 assists.

The Bucks begin their preseason against the Chicago Bulls on October 3rd, which will be the first of six games before the start of the campaign on October 26th.

Who will replace him?

The Bucks have been busy this offseason, as they attempt to reach the playoffs once again. Matthew Dellavedova, Mirza Teletovic, and the newly drafted Thon Maker are now on their books, making their roster more experienced and with good depth in the process.

It's the former that is most likely to step in at shooting guard, with the Australian having won an NBA championship this year. Dellavedova was a reliable shooter when called upon by the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, finishing with an average 7.5 points off 41 percent three-point conversion. A versatile guard, the 26-year-old could also fill in at point guard, although the Greek Freak Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to get more minutes at the three.

Another option for the 1971 champions is Michael Carter-Williams, although the 24-year-old lacks a scoring touch from beyond the arc. Despite averaging double figures during his first full season in Wisconsin, Carter-Williams converted just 27 percent of his attempted three's, which even more embarrassingly was a career-high average.

Rashad Vaughn and the newly drafted Malcolm Brogdon are other options in the shooting guard position, although it'll more than likely be going to someone with more NBA experience.
