After a 16-16 campaign, and an overall 94-105 record, Oregon State announced on Monday that is has fired head coach Craig Robinson.

Perhaps best known for being President Barack Obama's brother-in-law, Robinson won enough games to become Oregon State's fourth winningest coach, but he failed to lead his team into the NCAA Tournament in any of his six years in Corvallis.

"I want to thank Coach Robinson and his family for their contributions to Oregon State University," said athletic director Bob De Carolis in a statement released by OSU on Monday. "This was a difficult decision, but after further evaluation, I believe it is in the best interests of our student-athletes, our basketball program and our University." Robinson had been unable to put together successful seasons (he won more than 20 games just once) despite having top recruits on his roster. Even with the likes of Roberto Nelson, Devon Collier, and Jared Cunningham, Robinson's Beavers underachieved in the eyes of many.

De Carolis remained supportive of the First Lady's brother, but Robinson's national prestige was not enough to keep OSU boosters from growing impatient. An underlying thought prevailed, in fact, that Robinson only kept his job because of who he was related to.

The Beavers were looking ahead to a 2014-15 season without their top six players. While three players graduated, three others are leaving Corvallis for other reasons. Eric Moreland, a 6'10" Junior, declared early for the NBA draft, after averaging nine points and ten rebounds per game for the Beavers last year. Hallice Cooke, a freshman, has decided to transfer, and Junior Challe Barton, who is from Sweden, chose to play in Europe rather than return to Oregon State.

Robinson will exit Corvallis with a $4 million buy-out of the three remaining years on his contract. The University took a chance on him six years ago as an unproven coach with a two year stint at Brown, where he tallied a 30-28 record.

The Oregonian has reported a short list of possible replacements including former NBA player and current Arizona assistant coach Damon Stoudamire, Montana head coach Wayne Tinkle, and former Beavers assistant David Grace, who is currently on Steve Alford's staff at UCLA.
