Even without suspended running back Jamaal Williams, BYU had little trouble against Connecticut on Friday night, winning 35-10.

Taysom Hill led a 15 play, 75-yard scoring drive on the opening possession of the game and he topped it off himself with a 7 yard touchdown run. It was not long before BYU got the ball back, as Connecticut's Max DeLorenzo fumbled the ball and it was recovered by BYU's Bronson Kaufusi. The first play for BYU was a Hill to Mitch Mathews touchdown pass from 26 yards out. BYU led 14-0 before six minutes had even ticked off the clock.

Connecticut had a chance to respond on the next drive but Casey Cochran's pass was intercepted by Craig Bills to end that drive.

Hill threw his second touchdown pass of the night in the second quarter when he found Adam Hine from 7 yards out.

BYU look poised to score again with less than 5 minutes to go in the second quarter, but Mitch Mathews fumbled and UConn recovered. That fumble recovery led to a 1 yard touchdown run from Joshua Marriner to make it a 21-7 BYU lead.

BYU wasted no time in restoring their three touchdown lead. They quickly went down the field in 90 seconds, which was finished off when Hill threw a 35 yard touchdown pass to Terenn Houk.

BYU was on cruise control for the rest of the game. Connecticut got a 35-yard field goal from Bobby Puyol early in the fourth quarter to make it 28-10, but a Taysom Hill 26 yard touchdown run put the game beyond any doubt at 35-10.

Connecticut had two drives inside the BYU 10 yard line, but both of those ended with incomplete passes.

Hill finished the game on 28 of 36 passing with 308 yards and 3 touchdowns, while not committing a turnover. Hill also had 97 yards and 2 touchdowns on 11 carries. Paul Lasike filled in for Jamaal Williams, finishing with 49 yards rushing on 9 carries.

BYU's receivers were utilized evenly throughout. Nine different receivers caught a pass and eight of those had at least two catches. Mitch Mathews led the Cougars with 5 catches for 62 yards and a touchdown. Terenn Houk had 4 catches for 58 yards and a touchdown.

While BYU had 513 yards of offense, they also had 15 penalties for 150 yards. Those numbers will have to come down if BYU wants to have a 10 win season.

Connecticut found it hard to get any consistent offensive output. Casey Cochran went 17 of 31 for 171 yards and 1 interception. Chandler Whitmer came in throughout the game and fared similarly. He finished 8 of 17 with 113 yards. The leading rusher for UConn was Max DeLorenzo with 38 yards on 9 carries. UConn had 71 yards rushing for the entire game. Geremy Davis was the leading receiver with 7 catches for 96 yards.

The lone bright spot for UConn was Arkeel Newsome, who showed flashes of brilliance for the Huskies. Newsome is a true freshman with plenty of time to blossom.

BYU continues their season next Saturday at Texas. It will probably not be the same type of contest we saw last year when they ran for 550 yards against the Longhorns. Connecticut will take on Stony Brook next weekend at home.
