Purdue used a strong game from running back Raheem Mostert to get past Western Michigan. Mostert ran for 146 yards and 1 touchdown as the Boilermakers won 43-34.

Purdue started the scoring on their second drive with an 11 yard pass from Danny Etling to Justin Sinz. Western Michigan caught a break on the next Purdue drive when the Boilermakers' punter Thomas Meadows booted a 21 yard punt. That gave the Broncos the ball at the 28, which the happily converted into a 5 yard touchdown run from Jarvion Franklin to tie the game at 7.

After a 35 yard field goal by Purdue's Paul Griggs, Western Michigan took the lead on Jarvion Franklin's 61 yard touchdown run. Griggs hit another field goal, this one from 51 yards to make it a 14-13 Western Michigan advantage. An interception by Frankie Williams gave Purdue the ball on the Broncos' 4 yard line. Etling converted the four yard run to put Purdue back on top, 20-14.

After another Griggs field goal from 44 yards out, Purdue took a 23-14 lead into the halftime break.

The third quarter had more offensive explosions, first by Jarvion Franklin then by Raheem Mostert. Franklin ran in from 26 yards out on the opening drive for WMU. Not to be outdone, Mostert ran in a touchdown of his own from 11 yards out. With a little over 8 minutes remaining, the score was 30-21 in favor of Purdue.

Purdue extended their lead to 37-21 with a Danny Etling to Gabe Holmes connection from 8 yards out. The Broncos answered with a 7 yard touchdown pass by Zach Terrell to Kendrick Roberts. The Broncos made it a 37-34 game when Terrell found Corey Davis for a 14 yard touchdown. The extra point was missed by Andrew Haldeman.

Purdue put the game out of reach when Akeem Hunt got out in the open field for a 38 yard touchdown run. Paul Griggs missed the extra point, but the game was still a two possession game at 43-34.

Purdue's Danny Etling went 19 of 38 for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns. Mostert was bolstered in the backfield by Akeem Hunt, who had 78 yards and a touchdown via the ground game. Justin Sinz led the Boilermakers in receiving with 7 catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.

Western Michigan had a very good game offensively. Zach Terrell went 23 of 41 for 243 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Jarvion Franklin ran for 163 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground. Daniel Braverman caught 10 passes for 130 yards for the Broncos.

Western Michigan gets next week off before a road game to face the Idaho Vandals on September 13.

Purdue will face another Mid-American Conference team next week in Central Michigan.
