The No. 17 Arizona State Sun Devils absolutely roasted the New Mexico Lobos defense, racking up an impressive 423 rushing yards in what turned out to be a second straight Sun Devil blowout at 58-23. 216 of those yards came from D.J. Foster on his 19 carries, his new career high. He also had a touchdown.
The Sun Devils were up 22-0 in the first quarter before the Lobos finally scored with 32 seconds left in the quarter, on a Jhurrel Presley eight yard run. The Lobos made it a game in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 29-21 with less than five minutes left. Taylor Kelly wasn't having any of that.
Kelly ignited the aerial assault in the third quarter, as he threw a 24 yard touchdown pass to Jaelen Strong and a 41 yard touchdown pass to Cameron Smith that balooned the lead to 45-21. Kelly was 11 of 20 for 196 yards and a touchdown to go along with his 84 rushing yards and rushing touchdown.
The 2-0 No. 17 Sun Devils will climb higher in the rankings going into their third game, where they will take on the 1-1 Colorado Buffaloes next Saturday in PAC-12 play.
