Injuries are part of the game of football. J.W. Walsh left Saturday's game in the first quarter after completing 5 of 9 passes for 30 yards against Missouri State. He also picked up 42 rushing yards. This was an excellent start for a half a quarter of work. He was the man who had kept the Cowboys in the game in their previous start against Florida State in Dallas last weekend. To lose him early in the season is a frustrating way to begin the season.

But a report came out today showing some seriousness to the injury. It is from former Oklahoma State Cowboy Sam Mayes on his twitter account.

"Source telling me this afternoon JW Walsh foot is broken and he is expected to miss significant time. #OkState" - Sam Mayes (@AllmericanMayes) September 7, 2014.

This is in coordination with the website rotoworld.com that stated with a broken foot his is likely to miss 6-8 weeks. Sam Mayes added this, again per his Twitter account, "More new [sic] on Walsh, per source he is looking at 6-8 weeks unless surgery is needed then a return is doubtful...."

If he misses the next six weeks, he will miss games against the UTSA Roadrunners (September 13), the Texas Tech Red Raiders (September 25), the Iowa State Cyclones (October 4), the Kansas Jayhawks (October 11), and the TCU Horned Frogs (October 18). This would mean that his first game back would be against the West Virginia Mountaineers in the friendly confines of Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Also, the biggest games on the schedule would still be left in Kansas State, Texas, Baylor, and Oklahoma in the bedlam rivalry.

Filling in for Walsh is redshirt junior Daxx Garman. He started his collegiate career at Arizona before transferring back home to Oklahoma. He was a star at Jones High School near Oklahoma City and completed 69% of his passes for over 2,500 yards and 26 touchdowns back in 2009. Until he came in for Walsh yesterday he had no game action. Garman will have to raise his level for what will be coming for the Cowboys for their upcoming games.
