Matchups of top ten teams are sometimes sizzling matchups that live up to the billing. This was not one of them as TCU crushed K-State 41-20 on Saturday night at home.

After neither team scored for almost ten minutes, they then put up two scores in five minutes catapulted the Horned Frogs to a 14-0 advantage. The Wildcats came back just thirty seconds later with a 70 yard touchdown pass from Jake Waters to Tyler Lockett. At the end of the first quarter, it looked like we might have a barnburner on our hands.

The second quarter would change all that. There was no scoring until the last minute of the quarter when last week’s hero, kicker Jaden Oberkrom, made a 26 yard field goal to send TCU to a 17-7 advantage at intermission.

Starting the second half, the two teams traded touchdowns, with TCU scoring first in less than a minute and a half. Kansas State pulled back within ten, but after that TCU would break the game open with three straight touchdowns to give them a 41-14 lead. Joe Hubener scored on a six yard touchdown run to pull the Wildcats to within 41-20, then the extra point was blocked, which is how the game would end.

Kansas State dropped their second game of the season and their first game in conference play. This should all but eliminate Kansas State from playoff contention, while a solid win over a top ten team makes TCU’s resume that much more impressive. Their three point loss in Waco is all that is preventing TCU from being in the top three. With Baylor’s dominating win over Oklahoma, they could jump in the next poll considerably.
