1:04 PM ET-- Minnesota is playing in their first New Year's Day Game since 1962.

12:15 PM ET--Avoiding turnovers will be key for Minnesota. Three turnovers doomed them against the Illini, and five turnovers played a crucial role in their loss to TCU early in the season. The Minnesota defense did show some vulnerabiltity against the run in losses to Ohio State and Wisconsin, so a mobile quarterback like Maty Mauk should look to take off and see if he can get some running room against this defense. Should be a great game with two teams that play a very similar style.

12:12 PM ET--While the Tigers are favored in this game, it bears mentioning that teams have had success running right at their defense this season. That is what Georgia did, that's what Alabama did, even Indiana with Tevin Coleman (a Doak Walker Award candidate this past year), had success running against this Missouri defense. That is exactly what Minnesota does and will plan to do in this one. Missouri defensive tackles Josh Augusta, Harold Brantley and Matt Hoch will have their hands full against the big offensive line of the Gophers.

12:09 PM ET--Like their opponent, the Gophers run the ball on offense and are quite good at it. They rank 27th nationally with over 224 rushing yards per game, but they are in the bottom ten in passing yards. They are a middle of the pack team in terms of scoring at 29.3 points per game, which ranks 61st in the country. But they are stout defensively, allowing just 23.4 points per game, good for 32nd in the nation. Their fierce rushing attack is led by David Cobb, who should play despite being nicked up late in the year against the Cornhuskers. Cobb had a great season with 1545 rushing yards on 293 carries, averaging over five yards per carry with 13 touchdowns. The signal caller is Mitch Leidner, a dual threat quarterback who threw for 1540 yards and 10 touchdowns as well as rushing for 462 yards and 10 more touchdowns.

12:07 PM ET--The Minnesota Golden Gophers fell into obscurity after the departures of Marion Barber and Laurence Maroney. But after bringing in Jerry Kill as their head coach, the Gophers have now returned to relevance in the Big Ten. The Gophers came just short of making to the Big 10 title game out of the Big Ten west, falling just short against Wisconsin in the last week of the season. They lost to three very good teams in TCU, Ohio State and the Badgers, as well as one letdown loss to Illinois. Their signature moment was winning in the Big House on September 27th, which was the game that broke the sellout streak for the Wolverines. They blew out rival Iowa to win the Floyd of Rosedale Trophy, and came back for a thrilling win over Nebraska in Lincoln.

12:03 PM ET--The Tigers rode the rushing attack this season offensively, ranking 60th in rushing yards with over 165 per game. After losing Marcus Lucas and Dorial Green-Beckham from the 2013 team, Jimmie Hunt and Bud Sasser stepped in and filled the roles as starting receivers. This year's offense was not as prolific as those in previous years; the Tigers only averaged 27.4 points per game this season. But the defense has gotten steadily better, and ranked 23rd nationally with just 21.4 points allowed per game. They are led by a nasty pass rush, headlined by Shane Ray, a potential top 10 pick in the NFL draft. Ray had 14 sacks this season, having at least .5 sacks in 11 games. Markus Golden provided an additional 8.5 sacks on the other side of the line.

12:00 PM ET--After a second straight SEC east championship, the Missouri Tigers conclude the 2014 campaign against another team that turned heads this season in the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Tigers went 10-2 in the regular season before falling to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, their second straight season of falling short in Atlanta. The season included some high points—including a fourth win in five years over Texas A&M and a defensive domination of Florida in the swamp. This season also kicked off what has been dubbed the “Battle Line Rivalry” between the Tigers and the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Tigers were given all they could handle from the upstart Razorbacks in Columbia, Mo. but prevailed 21-14. Their most dramatic win was at Williams-Brice Stadium, where they defeated South Carolina 21-20 with Maty Mauk leading a last minute drive to pull off the upset of the then 13th ranked Gamecocks. In two of their first three years in the conference, Mizzou has won 10+ games and won two SEC east titles.
