The Akron Zips used a 27-2 run in the first half to improve to 11-5 (2-1 MAC) for the year with a win against the Bowling Green Falcons Wednesday, who fall to 10-4 (2-1).

Akron outscored the Falcons 38-22 in the first half, and would be on cruise control for much of the second, occasionally going up by 20-plus and never letting Bowling Green get closer than 16.

In beating the Falcons, Akron head coach Keith Dambrot picked up his 350th career win.

The Zips shot well above their season average of 41.7 field goal percentage with a 54.5 percent mark from the field, but the three point percentage was below their season average of 34.6% at 32%. Many of those misses were in the second half when shot selection was much more lax.

While Akron was on fire from the field, Bowling Green was shooting 32.8 percent from the field and just 20 percent from the three point line, making Akron’s 32 percent shooting performance from behind the arc seem far more impressive.

Deji Ibitayo led all scorers with 15 points, with 13 coming in an 8 minute stretch in the first half. Noah Robotham added 14 points and Pat Forsythe had 10 on 5-5 shooting.

Anthony Henderson led Bowling Green with 11 points.

The Zips are back in action against Central Michigan on Saturday.
