Do you remember when St John's was ranked? Do you remember when St John's was even relevant? Nobody else remembers either. The Johnnies were unable to build on an impressive victory earlier this week and pick up their second marquee win tonight, as their comeback attempt fell short and they were demolished by the No. 22 Butler Bulldogs.

Butler controlled the contest right from the start as they opened on a 15-6 run. The Butler offense was being run by Roosevelt Jones who had 10 points for the Bulldogs at the end of the first half. The Bulldogs were also winning the rebound battle by a margin of 20-16 at the end of the first half.

St John's got off to a complete opposite start. The Red Storm came out extremely slow out of the gate, as they were held scoreless for over five minutes to start the game. Sir 'Dominic Pointer finally got the Johnnies on the board with 14:33 left in the first half. The poor start by the Red Storm put them in an early hole, as they trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half.

Things just got worse for St John's as Chris Obekpa was ejected with eight minutes left in the half for an elbow to the head of Tyler Wideman. St John's is already a thin team in the terms of depth. The loss of Chris Obekpa hur them badly. One possitive for St John's is D'Angelo Harrison becoming the third member of St John's 2000 point club after a bucket in the first half; he joins Chris Mullin and Malik Sealy as members of that group. Butler led 36-28 at the break.

Butler went on a 14-2 run to start the second half and continued to dominate the contest. The Bulldogs would then take a 50-30 lead after Kellen Dunham made five free throws with 16:28 remaining. Dunham was fouled by Pointer on a 3-point attempt, and Pointer was given a technical foul when he argued the call.

The Johnnies tried to make a late comeback, as they cut the Butler lead to as little as eight in the second half. St John's would not get any closer in this one, as the Bulldogs ended the game on a huge 15-0 run.
