Dual-threat quarterback Lorenzo Nunez of Kennesaw, Georgia, signed with the South Carolina Gamecocks on Wednesday afternoon, choosing the Gamecocks over Ohio State and North Carolina State. Gamecocks Head coach Steve Spurrier and company were able to hold off a strong push from the Wolfpack after Nunez visited Raleigh, North Carolina, last spring. Nunez is rated as the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback and the 219th-best overall prospect in the 2015 class according to the 247Sports Composite Index.

VAVEL USA:  Why did you pick Carolina?

Nunez: It's close to home. I have a good relationship with the coaches and the players, and I think that Coach Spurrier and Mangus will make me into a better player and man.

VAVEL USA: How do you feel you improved as a passer during your senior year?

Nunez: I feel like I've got the ball out of my hands quicker and made better reads my senior year.

VAVEL USA: Speaking of reads, how do you feel about Carolina's read-option offense?

Nunez: I think it's a good package for their offense. I know they didn't run it as much as last year with Shaw, but when they did, Pharoh was at quarterback, and he did a good job.
