In a year that has been tough finding a perfect candidate to contend with Kansas in the Big 12, Oklahoma State had recently emerged as potentially the right team. 3 consecutive wins over Big 12 elite such as Texas, Baylor, and those elusive Kansas Jayhawks, the Cowboys were quickly rising in the ranks of the elite. They went to Fort Worth on Saturday as the favorite over the 1-10 in conference TCU Horned Frogs, a team that has suffered heartbreak after heartbreak in close games throughout Big 12 play. Would TCU be able to finally break through with a quality win over a top 25 team, or would Oklahoma State win their 4th in a row to create a massive battle for the Big 12 title down the stretch?

After forcing 17 OKST turnovers, as well as holding the Pokes to 3-16 shooting from outside, Texas Christian got their first win over a top 25 team all season, proving that Oklahoma State still may not be ready to push for a Big 12 regular season championship.

In a game where TCU would break a 7 game losing streak, it was tight throughout the first half. After Anthony Allen Jr. dunked illegally in pregame warmups, so TCU shot free throws to start the game up 2-0. They would need those poings, as Jeff Newberry chipped in admirably for the Cowboys, scoring a few from downtown and creating a threat for the Horned Frogs to contend with. Le'Bryan Nash scored 3 consecutive buckets about halfway through the first session of the game, as the Pokes went into halftime up by two, 28-26.

The scoring picked up in the first five minutes of the second half, with both teams flying into the lane for short jumpers and easy layups. TCU's 'Triple K Attack' made up of Kyan Anderson, Karviar Shepherd, and Kenrich Williams bumfuzzled OK State, creating turnovers and easy offense all to the favor of the Horned Frogs. A Kenrich Williams dunk with 2:31 left brought the TCU crowd in the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center (a makeshift gymnasium being used this season in the absence of Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, which is undergoing renovations) to its feet, and Texas Christian got their 2nd win over Big 12 competition of the season, 70-55.

This Oklahoma State loss brings them to 17-8 on the season, 7-6 in conference. Le'Bryan Nash led the team in scoring with 19 points, along with 7 rebounds, but his 7 turnovers were very sloppy in the losing effort. The biggest problem for Travis Ford's squad was the poor shooting performance by arguably their most important catalyst, Phil Forte III. The sharpshooter was 3-10 shooting for only 7 points on the evening, very hurtful for the Pokes' cause. Finally, many Cowboys got into foul trouble, such as Michael Cobbins (who fouled out of the game) and Jeff Newberry. TCU was 18-23 at the charity stripe, a critical integer in the contest. The team will try to bounce back when they invite Iowa State to Stillwater on Wednesday.

The Horned Frogs finally got a huge, quality win under the leadership of Trent Johnson, and although they are still far on the outside looking in when talking about an NCAA tournament, this win doesn't hurt. They will need to start a win streak to get there, but using their 'Triple K Attack', as well as some production off of the bench, they may be able to do just that. They invite Kansas State to town on Wednesday.
