As we are now well into March, the Madness is just about to begin for the SEC as the tournament begins on Wednesday, March 11th, as the 11-seed South Carolina Gamecocks face the 14-seed Missouri Tigers and the 12-seed Mississippi State Bulldogs face the 13-seed Auburn Tigers. But what most people will be looking at in this tournament will be whether anybody can beat the Kentucky Wildcats and give them their first loss before entering the NCAA Tournament. The rest of the SEC has been rather weak this year, but there are some teams that can give the Wildcats a run for their money. Here is who puts the Wildcats perfect season at risk:

Arkansas Razorbacks:

The Razorbacks were the only SEC team besides the Wildcats that ended the regular season ranked. They’ll come into the tournament as the 2-seed and probably the only other SEC team that is a sure thing to make the NCAA Tournament no matter how they play in the SEC Tournament. The Razorbacks are led by the SEC Player of the Year, Bobby Portis who averaged just under 18 points and 9 rebounds per game. In their only matchup with the Wildcats, the Razorbacks couldn’t keep up with Kentucky’s size and depth, as they were defeated 84-67. Although they are the second best team in the conference, Arkansas does not stand much chance in a rematch against Kentucky unless they get a dominant performance from Bobby Portis.

Georgia Bulldogs:

The Bulldogs might be the biggest threat to Kentucky’s undefeated run. The 3-seed Bulldogs gave the Wildcats a major scare in their most recent matchup, as they led by as much as 9 points in the second half. In both of their matchups with Kentucky, the Bulldogs outrebounded the Wildcats. If the Bulldogs can keep the turnover margin close, they might just have what it takes to defeat Kentucky. It may be tough for Georgia to face the Wildcats, as they would have to make the championship round.

LSU Tigers:

LSU is another team that gave Kentucky quite the scare this year. As the 4-seed, the Tigers would have to matchup with the Wildcats in the semi-finals. In their only matchup this season, the Wildcats only won by two points. The Tigers star player, Jarell Martin went for 21 points and 11 boards in that matchup. The LSU big men, Martin and Jordan Mickey, could really be a duo that outplays the Kentucky duo of Willie Cauley-Stein and Karl-Anthony Towns. If the LSU guards can keep up with the Kentucky guards, watch out for this potential upset.

Texas A&M Aggies:

It took Kentucky two overtimes to beat the Aggies in early January. The Aggies got 25 points and 9 rebounds from junior guard Danuel House in the matchup. The Aggies know what it takes to keep it close with Kentucky but what worries the Aggies is how they ended the season. They lost three of their final four games including a game against the Florida Gators in which Danuel House went 0-10 from the field and hurt his foot late in the game, which caused him to miss their one point defeat to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Ultimately, the Aggies don’t stand much chance in a rematch with Kentucky unless House can get healthy and back to playing his very best.

Mississippi Rebels:

The Rebels were the only team besides the Aggies that Kentucky took more than regulation to beat. They took the Wildcats to overtime. It was both teams first SEC game of the season. However, much like the Aggies, the Rebels lost three of their last four games. In the Kentucky game, junior guard Stefan Moody shot 61.5% from the field and scored 25 points. In the three losses in the final four games, he shot 31.3%, 18.8%, and 20% from the field. Getting him going early could be the key to upsetting the Wildcats.

Florida Gators:

You can never count out a Billy Donovan coached team, even if that team has a 15-16 record. The Gators have the blueprint to beating John Calipari’s Kentucky team as they beat them all three times the teams matched up the prior season. The Gators did, however, lose four of their five starters from the previous season and have lost 13 more games than they lost all of the previous season. The Gators put up a good fight against the Wildcats in their first matchup as the Gators took a two-point lead into halftime but ended up losing by seven. The Gators have the talent to keep up with Kentucky and need to win the SEC tournament to make the NCAA tournament so they could put the Wildcats perfect season at risk. If the Gators can find a way to limit the Wildcats advantage on the boards, they could complete the upset.

Who will win the tournament?

When it’s all said and done the Kentucky Wildcats will hoist the SEC championship trophy. They have it all, from athletic big men, to great guard play, and a bench full of impact players as well. By winning the SEC tournament the Wildcats would become the second team ever to go undefeated in all of SEC play, the other being last year’s Florida team. This has truly been Calipari’s best season at Kentucky as he put together a group that has very few flaws.
