Our VAVEL USA Player of the Game is Dayton forward Kendall Pollard. He scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds on the evening.

A controversial ending there as the contact was very evident but the officials kept their whistles in their pockets. Interesting to say the least.

1st (20:00): Boise State wins the tip and we are underway.

The Boise State Broncos are technically the home team because they were "seeded" higher than Dayton. Therefore, Boise State will be wearing their home white uniforms while Dayton is wearing their road red uniforms.

Dayton has not lost at home since February 25th, 2014 when they were beaten by 26 points by the Saint Joseph's Hawks.

It may be a very difficult game for Boise State seeing as though it is a home game for Dayton. The Broncos do have a few good road wins this year over Saint Mary's and San Diego State.

The teams are out on the floor for warmups ahead of our game tonight.

The betting lines have Dayton as a four-point favorite coming into tonight.

Robert Morris holds on and will advance to play against Duke. We are now about 30 minutes to tip off from our game which will come at about 9:20 pm ET.

Wow a big turnover there from North Florida, a shot clock violation with 2:18 to go down by six points.

Dayton has played in five games against NCAA Tournament teams, they are 2-3 in those games.

The Boise State Broncos have played in six games against NCAA Tournament teams this year, they have a record of 2-4 in those games.

We will be back in a few moments with some more coverage of tonight's game.

Robert Morris is on an 11-0 run to cut the lead down to 44-42 North Florida.

The game before ours has just reached the half with North Florida leading Robert Morris 35-29. You can follow my colleague Evan Petzold's coverage of that game right here.

Dayton uses seven players. That is just about it. If one of these starters needs a break or gets into foul trouble you will see either Darrell Davis (6’4, Fr) or Bobby Wehrli (6’6, Jr) come onto the floor. Fatigue may play a big part in this game with the team coming off of a draining game against Virginia Commonwealth just three days ago. Will Boise State push the tempo in an effort to tire out these Flyers?

G – Scoochie Smith (6’2, Soph, 9.7 PPG, 3.2 RPG)

G – Kyle Davis (6’0, Soph, 8.1 PPG, 1.9 RPG)

G – Jordan Sibert (6’4, Sr, 17.3 PPG, 2.6 RPG)

F – Kendall Pollard (6’6, Soph, 14.6 PPG, 4.9 RPG)

F – Dyshawn Pierre (6’6, Jr, 12.9 PPG, 9.8 RPG)

Here is a look at the projected starting lineup for the Dayton Flyers. Stats included are from the team’s last ten games.

The team evolved though and players like Dyshawn Pierre and Kendall Pollard stepped up in the post to provide somewhat a low presence for the Flyers.

They were a big part of the team, no pun intended. Both of the players were 6-foot-9 forwards, their absence left the team without a true post player.

Archie Miller added that he was “extremely disappointed” in the two athletes.

The direct quote from the University of Dayton’s Director of Athletic stated that, “These two individuals have failed to meet the expectations and standards that we have for our student-athletes and as representatives of this university.” Quote via daytonflyers.com

The biggest story of the season for Dayton though came back in December. It was announced in mid-December that junior forwards Jalen Robinson and Devon Scott had been dismissed from the team.

It would be a road loss to Davidson that would start them on a second half slump which saw them lose six of their last 16 games to fall into the First Four. Some of those losses were not very good for the Flyers resume including losses on the road to Massachusetts, George Washington, Duquesne, and La Salle. The La Salle loss denied the Flyers a share of the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Title.

Dayton started out the season 15-2 with their only losses coming on a neutral floor to Connecticut and on the road against Arkansas. Their first five conference games were not too terribly difficult with games against Duquesne, St. Bonaventure, Fordham, La Salle, and Saint Louis.

The Dayton Flyers come into the NCAA Tournament off of a loss in the Atlantic 10 Championship Game to Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday. It was a very entertaining game that went to the Rams by a score of 71-65.

One thing that will be interesting to watch for the Broncos will be if they allow their big men to play out of the post. Dayton does not have a player on its roster taller than 6-foot-6 which gives the Broncos a significant height advantage. Will they keep their big men in the post or still give them the freedom to pop out for three point attempts? Another name to keep in mind for Boise State is that of Robert Heyer. The 6-foot-3 senior is averaging 25.2 minutes played in the last ten games while contributing 7.6 points per game.

G – Derrick Marks (6’3, Sr, 18.3 PPG, 3.9 RPG)

G – Igor Hadziomerovic (6’4, Sr, 5.9 PPG, 3.4 RPG)

F – Chandler Hutchison (6’7, Fr, 4.7 PPG, 3.2 RPG)

F – James Webb III (6’9, Soph, 12.1 PPG, 9.7 RPG)

F – Nick Duncan (6’8, Soph, 10.3 PPG, 3.6 RPG)

Here is a look at the projected starting lineup for the Boise State Broncos. Stats included are from the team’s last ten games.

Boise State advanced into the semifinals where they fell to Wyoming in overtime. The Broncos just could not seem to find the shots they were making a day earlier. BSU shot just 38.6% from the floor after a 50.0% effort the day before. The loss was a very nervy one for Boise State whose fate was now in the hands of the Selection Committee.

Sophomore forward Nick Duncan had a monster game scoring 23 points, just three points off of his season high. He connected on 7-of-15 three-point attempts, he shot 1-of-3 from inside the arc.

The Broncos squared off with the #8 seeded Air Force Falcons in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Tournament. Boise State had beaten Air Force by a combined 34 points in their previous two meetings during the season and this game was not any different as the Broncos won 80-68.

A Valentine’s Day loss at Fresno State would turn out to be the only blip on the radar for Boise State through the rest of the conference schedule as they would clinch a share of the regular-season championship with San Diego State with a 14-4 record.

This win became the springboard for Boise State as they would go on to win their next seven game games including home wins over Colorado State and San Diego State.

The turning point of the Broncos season came in their win over UNLV on January 13th. Boise State trailed in the final moments of the game until point guard Derrick Marks made a turnaround shot to send the game into overtime. The Broncos outscored the Rebels 14-5 in overtime to win 82-73 bringing their conference record to 1-3.

The start of Mountain West play though was a rocky one for the Broncos. They lost their three opening games including a home loss to Utah State. The other two losses were on the road to #24 Colorado State and Wyoming by six and 11 points respectively.

Boise State’s road to the NCAA Tournament started pretty well this season with wins over teams like Montana (20-13) and Saint Mary’s (21-9). They did lose three games in non-conference play but two of those were to teams who made the NCAA Tournament (Wisconsin and NC State).

The Boise State Broncos come into tonight’s game off of a loss in the Mountain West semi-finals to the eventual champion Wyoming Cowboys. It was the first loss in almost a month for the Broncos and only the second loss in two months.

Tonight’s game is part of the East Region where the winner will become the 11th seed. They will travel to Columbus, Ohio for a second round matchup with the #6 seed Providence Friars. Join VAVEL USA writer Evan Petzold for live coverage of that game on Friday Night with an approximate tip time of 9:57 pm ET.
