Senior guard Jordan Sibert only logged 24 minutes on Wednesday night in Dayton’s win over Boise State. It was his second lowest minute total of the season behind a 19 minute appearance back in February in a win over Saint Louis. Both times were due to early foul trouble.

On Wednesday night, Sibert missed a majority of the first half after picking up his third foul very early in the game. Kendall Pollard stepped up in Sibert’s absence with a team-high 17 points and six rebounds. Scoochie Smith also added 11 points and six assists while playing the entire game. Smith was responsible for big turnovers by Boise State late in the game.

Despite the extended minutes on the bench, Sibert was big when called upon hitting a massive three-pointer from the elbow with 37 seconds left to give the Dayton Flyers a 56-55 win over the Boise State Broncos. Boise State had a chance at the end but Derrick Marks’ three-point attempt was well wide of the basket.

Dayton shot very well as team from the floor with a shooting percentage of 47.6%. Their big men, Dyshawn Pierre and Kendall Pollard, combined for 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting despite being undersized. They also kept Boise’s big men in check allowing only nine combined points on 4-of-12 shooting.

Derrick Marks led all scorers with 23 points in the losing effort for Boise State. Montigo Alford had a big game off the bench with 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting, all of his made baskets were from behind the arc. Finally, James Webb III had an interesting game with some easy missed baskets but he was a beast in the post pulling down 13 rebounds.

One of Boise State’s big problems on the night was free-throw shooting.  The team had shot 74.6% from the line in their last ten games. Tonight, they could only manage 50.0% and now they will travel back to Boise, looking to regroup for next season.

The Dayton Flyers move on to Columbus, Ohio where they will face the Providence Friars on Friday night. Make sure to join my colleague Evan Petzold for live coverage of that game starting at 7:50 pm ET.
