Dwayne Polee II was a key player against his former team for San Diego State, hitting five three pointers, giving him all of his 15 points in San Diego State’s 76-64 win over St. John’s on Friday night. The five three-pointers was not just a season-high for Polee, it was also the same amount of triples that he had made in his last nine games combined.

JJ O'Brien actually led the team in points with 18, while Skylar Spencer added 10. Matt Shrigley added 12 points off of the bench, all of them coming from three-point shots as well.

Coach Steve Fisher (most known for his time with Michigan's Fab Five in the 1990's) now improves to 6-4 in the tournament since 2011. The Aztecs were up the whole entire second half of the game,  hitting a lot of their three point shots while St. John's couldn't hit very many at all missing their first seven three point shots.

St. John's was led by Sir'Dominic Porter who had a double-double with a game high 21 points and 10 boards. D'Angelo Harrison added 18 points, but they couldn't overcome the loss of center Chris Obekpa, who was suspended for the game for violating team rules. St. John's will look to come back next year to try to win their first tournament game since 2000, and end their drought of losing in the first round.

The Aztecs have set up a good matchup - the Duke Blue Devils, in a game that many believe Duke should win quite easily, however San Diego State has good talent, a good coach, and with all the upsets so far this March Madness season, who knows what could happen next for these teams?
