The No. 1 Villanova Wildcats took on the No. 8 North Carolina State Wolfpack with high hopes of making the Sweet 16. Actually, little to none picked NC State to upset. The game took place at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Wolfpack destroyed the odds and topped the Wildcats, 71-68.

The Wolfpack were led by Trevor Lacey, Anthony Barber and Abdul-Malik Abu. They combined for 43 points and 21 rebounds. All three players had huge buckets to hold off Villanova's late run.

Lacey went 6-for-14 from the field, 2-for-5 from deep and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. He finished with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and one steals. Lacey turned the ball over just four times.

Barber dropped 13 points and added three rebounds, three assists and turned the ball over twice. He shot 4-for-9 from the field, 0-for-1 from deep and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. It was a pretty good shooting night for the guard.

Abu, a forward, went 4-for-10 from the field, 0-for-0 from the three point line, but he made up for his shooting struggles with a solid 5-for-8 shooting from the free throw line.

The Wolfpack shot 45 percent from the field, 27 percent from deep and 74 percent from the charity stripe. They ripped down 45 rebounds and dished out 11 assists. NC State turned the ball over 10 times.

Leading the team for Villanova was Darrun Hilliard II and JayVaughn Pinkston. The two dominated with 40 of the 68 points scored by Villanova.

Hilliard was on fire, shooting 8-for-18 from the field, 6-for-10 from deep and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. He finished with 27 points, one rebound and one assists. The star turned the ball over just once. He was easily the top player on the court at all times.

Pinkston only shot five shots from the field. He made two of them. However, he went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe to give himself 13 points on the night. He also grabbed six rebounds for Nova.

The Wildcats shot 31 percent from the field, 32 percent from deep and 91 percent from the free throw line. They grabbed 32 rebounds and dished out seven assists. Villanova turned the ball over seven times.

NC State will move on in the NCAA Tournament. They will face either Northern Iowa or Louisville in the Sweet 16.
