Highlights and Touchdowns: West Virginia 6-18 Minnesota in NCAAF 2021 Guaranteed Rate Bowl
Minnesota beat West Virginia to win the 2021 Guaranteed Rate Bowl tonight, led by their great defense, as well as Ky Thomas and Mar'Kiese Irving in attack. Controlling the line of scrimmage, the Gophers overwhelmed the Mountaineers throughout the game, winning their fifth straight Bowl game, and their third with Coach P.J. Fleck. West Virginia played without leading running back Leddie Brown, who chose not to play to prepare for the NFL, and struggled hard to find offensive rhythm against the fierce Gophers defense. The Mountaineers couldn't do anything against the Minnesota defense in the second half. West Virginia will get Doege back and its offense is full of freshmen, although Brown will not return. The defense also has many returning players, but they will lose to LB Josh Chandler-Semedo, S Sean Mahones and DT Dante Stills. While Minnesota has several key players returning for a sixth season, including Morgan, Ibrahim, WR Chris Autman-Bell and C John Michael Schmitz.
