The Utah Utes will seek their seventh consecutive victory when they face the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl Game Pres. By Capital One Venture X this afternoon at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
The Buckeyes won their only previous meeting against the Utes, 64-6 in 1986.

Rose Bowl Game
The Rose Bowl Game is an annual college football game, usually played on January 1 (New Years Day) at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. When New Years Day falls on Sunday, the game is played on Monday, January 2.
The Rose Bowl Game is nicknamed "Everybody's Grandfather" because it is the oldest Bowl game in operation. It was first played in 1902 as the East-West Tournament football game, and has been played annually since 1916. Since 1945, it has been the highest-attended college football bowl game.
Since 2021, the game has been sponsored by Capital One and will be officially known as the Rose Bowl Game Presented by Capital One Venture X this year. Past sponsors include Northwestern Mutual (2015-2020), Vizio (2011-2014), Citi (2004-2010), Sony / PlayStation 2 (2003), and AT&T (1999-2002).
The game is part of the Pasadena Rose Tournament Association's "America's New Years Celebration", which also includes the historic Rose Parade. The winners of the game received the Leishman Trophy, named for former Tournament of Roses presidents William L. Leishman and Lathrop K. Leishman, who played an important role in the history of this game.
The Rose Bowl Game has traditionally hosted conference champions from the Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences (or their predecessors). Since 2002, the Rose Bowl Game has occasionally deviated from its traditional matchups for use in "national championship" systems.

Utah finally plays in this famous New Years Day game: the Rose Bowl Game. The Utes will try to cap off their great campaign when they take on the Buckeyes this afternoon.
Utah is playing in the Rose Bowl Game for the first time since joining the Pac-12 for the 2011 season. The slow start to the season prevented them from having a college football playoff case, but they are currently one of those teams to which that you don't want to face.
The Utes also come in as one of the most stubborn teams in the NCAAF with six straight wins and nine in their last 10 games. They beat Oregon by margins of 31 of 28 points at the end of the season, the latter in the Pac-12 title game.

Ohio State had national championship aspirations, so the Buckeyes are looking to shed their disappointment against the Utes.
The Buckeyes played very well most of the season, but a loss to Michigan in the final of the regular season prevented them from playing in the Big Ten title game and eliminated them from the CFP contest.
