Kansas State Warm-up
The Wildcats have avoided any exclusion options as they try to give third-year coach Chris Klieman his first Bowl victory.
Several Kansas State players had just joined the team when the Wildcats lost to Navy in the 2019 Liberty Bowl. They didn't go to any Bowl after finishing 4-6 last season.

LSU offensive
LSU offensive line coach Brad Davis is serving as interim head coach, replacing Ed Orgeron, who was fired at the end of the regular season. New Tigers head coach Brian Kelly has focused on recruiting his staff, which will include Davis, as well as recruiting.
Starting quarterback Max Johnson has transferred to Texas A&M, and LSU has yet to reveal the NCAA's decision on the team's appeal for rookie Garrett Nussmeier not to lose his red jersey season if he plays in this. Bowl.
Nussmeier has played in four relief games for Johnson, whose departure left the rookie the only quarterback on a scholarship for the Tigers.
This is how the teams arrive for this match
The LSU Tigers finished tied for last in SEC West and still made it to a bowl game. The Tigers finished 6-6 overall and their record was good enough to get them to play in the TaxAct Texas Bowl, at the Texas Bowl in Houston tonight.
They will face the Kansas State Wildcats of the Big 12. The Wildcats finished 7 -5 on the season. These two teams have not met in recent years. The Wildcats are favorites in the forecasts but there are 60 minutes to go and games have to be played.

2021 TaxAct Texas Bowl
The TaxAct Texas Bowl is an annual NCAA approved Division I FBS college football game first held in 2006 in Houston, Texas. Each edition of the bowl has been played at NRG Stadium, formerly known as Reliant Stadium. The bowl replaced the defunct Houston Bowl, which was played annually from 2000 to 2005, and prior to that, the Bluebonnet Bowl, Houston's first bowl game, played from 1959 to 1987.
As of the 2021 edition, the bowl is sponsored by TaxAct, a tax preparation software company, and is officially known as the TaxAct Texas Bowl. The game was previously sponsored by Mercari in 2020 when it was known as the Mercari Texas Bowl, Academy Sports + Outdoors from 2017 to 2019 when it was known as Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl, AdvoCare from 2014 to 2016 when it was known as the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl and Meineke Car Care from 2011 to 2012, when it was known as the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.
The 2020 edition, scheduled for December 31 between TCU and Arkansas, was canceled on December 29 due to COVID-19 issues.

Key players of LSU
This game is expected to be an interesting Bowl. QB Max Johnson will participate in the TaxAct Texas Bowl.
Tigers 1000-yard running back Tyrion Davis-Price also looks set to play and be a major weapon in the LSU Tigers offense.
Key players of Kansas
Quarterback Skylar Thompson is a bit beaten up, but likely for this game. Thompson threw for 1,844 yards, 9 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. His number one offensive weapon is running back Deuce Vaughn, who was quick to become one of the best running backs in the NCAAF. He has rushed 1,256 yards and 15 touchdowns this season. The best receiver is Malik Knowles, who caught 26 passes for 399 yards and 2 touchdowns and also rushed for 112 yards.
LSU
The LSU Tigers finished the regular season 6-6 overall and 3-5 in the SEC. That led to a tie for the last ticket in the SEC West. It's been a strange season for the Tigers, as coach Ed Orgeron, who led them to a national championship a few years ago, announced that he is retiring. He coached his last game on November 28, in an upset 27-24 victory over No. 25 ranked Texas A&M. Orgeron will not coach in this game, as Brad Davis, the offensive line coach, will be the interim coach in this game.
LSU averages 27.1 points per game and is 79th in that category. They do most of the damage through passing game, ranking 32nd in the NCAAF with 264.2 passing yards per game. Defensively, the Tigers allow 25.3 points per game, ranking 57th.

Kansas State
The Kansas State Wildcats finished the regular season 7-5 overall and 4-5 in the Big 12, which placed them fifth in the conference. The Wildcats had a hot streak for a stretch in the second half of the season, winning 4 games in a row, but then stumbled down the stretch, losing their last two games. One loss was against Baylor in seventh place, the other was a loss at Texas. The Wildcats are averaging 26.3 points per game, which is 83rd of the season.
They average 161.5 yards per running game, which is 67th in the league. While the Wildcats defense allows 21.1 points per game, it is ranked 26th in the NCAAF.
