Reginald Porter will miss the 2014 season after suffering a knee injury on Tuesday. The injury did not seem severe when it happened on Tuesday, but a follow-up examination revealed it was severe enough to warrant Porter missing the entire year. Porter will not have surgery for a couple of weeks, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

"We didn’t think much of it when it happened," Utah head coach Kyle Wittingham said on Wednesday. "He didn’t think much of it. Looked good from an initial exam, but upon further examination, he’s done for the season." Wittingham went on to say, "He was a guy we were counting on."

Porter was listed as a co-starter at cornerback with Davion Orphey. Porter recorded 10 tackles and a pass breakup as freshman in 11 games last season. Orphey started 8 games and finished with 33 tackles and 5 pass breakups.

Without Porter, safety Brian Allen and wide receiver Dominique Hatfield will take over the snaps vacated by Porter. Hatfield may see action on both sides of the ball with the loss of Porter.

Utah starts the season on Thursday, August 28 versus Football Championship Subdivision opponent Idaho State.
