12:45: Just 15 minutes until kickoff. The start of the first NFL Sunday of the year is so close!

12:30: Just a half hour until kickoff.

11:54: The biggest question mark heading into this season for the Houston Texans is at the quarterback position. They traded Matt Schaub to the Oakland Raiders this offseason and now Ryan Fitzpatrick will start for his third team in as many seasons. However, the team also recently traded for New England Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallet. Fitzpatrick certainly has the weapons to help him succeed in Arian Foster and Andre Johnson. It will be interesting to see how the quarterback position pans out for the Texans over the course of the season.

11:52: The Houston Texans have a scary set of defensive ends that are likely to be one of, if not the best pass rushing tandems in the NFL. On one side they have 2012 Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt. In just three NFL seasons, Watt has become one of the most feared defensive players in the league by logging 217 tackles, 36.5 sacks, and 8 forced fumbles. He is also sometimes referred to as J.J. “Swat” for his ability to knock down passes at the line of scrimmage. In fact, he has recorded 27 passes defended in just three seasons. Ridiculous numbers for a defensive lineman. On the other side of the line, they have 2014 #1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney. Throughout his career at South Carolina, most everyone assumed that Clowney would eventually be the first pick in the NFL Draft. He has amazing quickness and agility at the defensive lineman position. It would be extremely surprising to see him not be successful at the next level. Now that Watt has another potential star on the defensive line, it will be even harder to double team him. Opposing quarterbacks and offensive lineman better look out.

11:50: The Houston Texans also have a new head coach in former Penn State coach Bill O’Brien. O’Brien went 15-9 in two seasons as head coach of the Nittany Lions after taking over following the Joe Paterno and Jerry Sandusky saga. This, however, is not O’Brien’s first stint in the NFL. He was with the New England Patriots in a variety of offensive roles from 2007-2011. He certainly inherited a team with a lot of talent, one that went 12-4 just two seasons ago.

11:49: The Washington Redskins have no shortage of weapons on the offensive side of the football. First of all, there's Robert Griffin III- a dual-threat quarterback just two years removed from his Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign. They also have workhouse running back Alfred Morris, who rushed for 2,888 yards and 20 touchdowns in just his first two seasons in the league. They return star wideout Pierre Garcon, who lead the entire NFL with 113 receptions last season. They added two new receiver in Andre Roberts and perennial Pro Bowler DeSean Jackson. They have second-year tight end Jordan Reed who looks to be one of the top young tight ends in the league. To add to that, they have Trent Williams who is highly regarded as one of the best left tackles in the league. With all these weapons, it’s up to Robert Griffin III and Jay Gruden to make them work.

11:48: The Washington Redskins also have a new head coach in former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden. Gruden did wonders for the development of another young quarterback, Andy Dalton. Gruden will be the primary offensive play caller for the Redskins, something that he was very successful doing during his stint in Cincinnati. It seems that Jay Gruden has brought a completely different vibe to the Redskins locker room. He often gets very involved in practice by doing such things as lining up across from DeSean Jackson or running routes against Deangelo Hall.

11:47: The biggest question surrounding the Washington Redskins this season is third-year quarterback Robert Griffin III. After electrifying the league as the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2013, Griffin struggled through an injury plagued season where he was eventually benched for the final three games of the season. With a new offense and the lack of his restrictive knee brace, it will be interesting to see how Griffin rebounds from a lackluster sophomore season. He had an 82.2 quarterback rating last season, as opposed to a stellar 102.4 rating as a rookie. Many Redskins fans have become increasingly pessimistic that Griffin may not actually be the franchise quarterback that they yearn for. As the season begins, the must remember to be patient with a young quarterback learning a new offense as well as learning how to become more of a pure pocket passer.

11:46: Both the Washington Redskins and Houston Texans had disappointing seasons last year. After they both made the playoffs in the 2012-13 season, the Redskins and Texans finished the 2013-14 season at 3-13 and 2-14, respectively. Both teams are clearly looking to return to the form that they had two seasons ago, rather than the dismal performance they put forward last season. For 11 straight NFL seasons a team has gone from worst to first in their division, and both the Redskins and the Texans will look to be one of those teams this season.

11:45: The last matchup between these two teams was in 2010 when the Houston Texans defeated the Washington Redskins 30-27 in overtime.

11:44: This matchup will broadcast at 1:00 PM EST on FOX.

11:43: The Washington Redskins vs Houston Texans will face off at NRG Stadium on Sunday in Week 1 of the 2014 NFL Season.
