At the star oft the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Robert Griffin III finally started to look like the same quarterback that electrified the league in 2012 on his way to winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. The Redskins opened the game with a read option play where Griffin kept the ball and ran for a first down (and he slid to protect himself in the process). The crowd erupted after that.

Just a few plays later, Griffin escaped pressure in the pocket, rolled out right, and completed a beautiful pass to DeSean Jackson as he fell out of bounds. It seemed that Robert Griffin III was back as an elite dual-threat quarterback. However, after the play Griffin stayed down on the sideline for several minutes grimacing in pain. He was eventually carted off the field with an air cast already around his left ankle. The Redskins faithful at FedEx Field quickly turned from raucous to silence.

Shortly after being taken into the locker room, the Redskins announced that Griffin would not return to the game. Before the game had finished, it was announced that RG3 had sustained a dislocated left ankle but that more tests needed to be done to determine the severity of the injury. Head coach Jay Gruden confirmed this report in his post game interview.

On Twitter, Griffin's former doctor tweeted the following:

"RGIII has dislocated left ankle. These generally occur with a fracture so I think he is done for the year." - Dr. Mark Adickes (@jocktodoc)

The Redskins dominant 41-10 victory of the Jaguars was made bitter by this injury to their starting quarterback who was finally starting to look like his old self. We should know a lot more about this injury tomorrow, including time table for return. As always, we will keep you updated as soon as we learn more.
