8:21 PM ET: Tampa Bay has won the toss and has elected to defer. The Falcons will open on offense.
8:17 PM ET: The Atlanta Falcons are taking the field.
8:13 PM ET: The guys on the CBS pre-game show all picked the Falcons to win tonight by varied margins. We will see if they are right in just a matter of moments from the Georgia Dome.
8:11 PM ET: This is a huge game for both teams but especially the Buccaneers who do not want to fall to 0-3 at this point in the season.
8:07 PM ET: We are less than 20 minutes away from the kickoff tonight. What do you think will happen?
8:06 PM ET: It appears that Falcons wide receiver Roddy White is inactive tonight due to his hamstring injury.
6:00 PM ET: The Buccaneers are 0-2 and have allowed an average of 19.5 points this season. They have scored 15.5 themselves per game.
6:00 PM ET: The Falcons have allowed and average 29.0 points per game this season, while scoring 23.5 themselves. They are 1-1.
5:55 PM ET: Last season, these two teams split the matchups. Julio Jones was injured for both games. He is fourth in the NFL with 204 yards this season. He also racked up 394 yards and three touchdowns in three career games vs. Tampa Bay.
5:50 PM ET: Tampa Bay's defense figures to be tested by an Atlanta offense that's averaging 438.5 yards for the league's second-best mark. Without the 568-yard performance in a 37-34 win over New Orleans on Sept. 7 this average would not be possible by any means.
5:40 PM ET: Since 2001 these teams are tied, 12-12, in 24 meetings. This game should be a good matchup if the Bucs can prove they will improve offensively. "Normally when you're playing a division opponent, and as you know most of the Thursday night games are division opponents, we have some familiarity with them," Mike Smith said. "This is a new (Bucs) coaching staff, so I think we're at a little bit of a disadvantage compared to other years."
"At the end of the day, you hear about quarterbacks being measured by wins and we're 0-2 so for me that's how I evaluate it," Josh McCown said. "I look at what could I have done better to help us win the ballgame. I look at it for both games, I really felt like I did a lot of good things except for three turnovers in those games and those have been critical."
"A lot is being said about the offense, and what we're doing in certain situations, but where we're really not performing well enough right now is on the defensive side," Coach Lovie Smith said. "From long drives to taking the ball away. Our first goal on the defensive side is to score. We haven't come close to doing any of those things at this stage. ... But we will."
5:39 PM ET: Doug Martin was inactive on Sunday for the Buccaneers, but Bobby Rainey was dominant with 144 yards on 22 carries. Look for Tampa Bay to go back to the run game.
5:38 PM ET: Tampa Bay (0-2) is off to yet another winless start after dropping their second game of the season. They lost their first eight games last season. Quarterback Josh McCown has averaged 168.5 passing yards per game, however, he has tossed three interceptions.
5:36 PM ET: Atlanta (1-1) allowed 472 yards for the second straight game in Sunday's 24-10 loss at Cincinnati. The 635 passing yards the Falcons have given up represents the second-highest total in the league.
5:34 PM ET: The Falcons have allowed more yards than any team and are looking to return home and fix that stat. Matt Ryan will hope to bounce back from a rough performance. The injury-plagued Tampa Bay Buccaneers are without their starting running back Doug Martin.
