The Washington Redskins came into this game with a measly 1-5 record and no sign of the losing coming to an end. Then the game started off like many feared, with an erratic, inconsistent Kirk Cousins. Then, in an act that few expected, head coach Jay Gruden pulled Kirk Cousins in favor of third string quarterback Colt McCoy. The move happened after the Redskins were booed off of the field by their home fans at the conclusion of the first half.

McCoy's first pass attempt as a member of the Redskins was a simple 8-yard curl route that Pierre Garcon used to show off his speed while he turned it into a 70-yard touchdown. This pass was McCoy's first regular season touchdown pass since 2012 when he was with the Cleveland Browns. McCoy was not even the Browns regular starter at this point, in fact he hasn't been a starter since 2011. This was a big moment for McCoy and he had the following to say after the game: "It's been two years and I don't want to get emotional. But I'm just thankful that I've hung in there and kept fighting."

Colt McCoy ended the game completing 11 of 12 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. Probably the most impressive part of McCoy's day was his game winning drive. With the Redskins trailing 17-16 and only one drive lift, McCoy marched the Redskins right down the field before setting up a game-winning 22-yard field goal by Kai Forbath as time expired.

Now with all the talk about quarterback controversy surrounding this team, it seems that Kirk Cousins has fallen out of it. It has been rumored that Robert Griffin III just may be ready to return this week against the Dallas Cowboys. However, if he is not fully healthy, it appears that the Redskins may rely on McCoy to lead the team on Monday night. It should be interesting to see what happens this week leading up to the game.
