New York Giants star defensive end, Jason Pierre-Paul, has been released from the hospital following firework accident that occurred on July 4th.

On Tuesday, NFL Network reported that the 26-year-old has been released from the Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he has been staying since the accident occurred. A hospital operator said his name was no longer in the system, indicating he is no longer there and has since been discharged.

Last Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter released medical charts showing Pierre-Paul had his right index finger amputated as well as a skin graft procedure, to help the burns heal. He had his finger amputated to help him get on the field quicker and also because the finger was so badly injured it would have little, if any, use to him.

The worse injury probably is the fractured thumb he got as result of this accident. The timetable for a return from this injury is 1-2 months putting his chances of being ready for week 1 in serious jeopardy.

Even if ready by week 1, it is still unknown if he will play or not because he yet to sign his franchise tender. Pierre-Paul will likely play under the $14.8 million franchise tag given to him by the Giants, after they were unable to agree on a long-term extension during the offseason. The deadline to agree to a long-term deal are tomorrow at 4:00 PM EST. Because of the injuries to Pierre-Paul, there is close to a zero percent chance that the Giants will give him a deal until they see his production on the field. After learning of this news, it was reported that the Giants pulled a $60 million dollar deal they were prepared to give him.

ESPN also reported that Pierre-Paul will not sign the franchise tender until he is healthy. If he signs it now, the Giants could put him on the non-football injury list for the start of training camp, which begins July 30th. If he's still on the list at the start of the regular season it would cause him to miss the first six games. If he waits, he will have some control over whether he gets to play or not those first six weeks. For now, we'll just have to wait and see.
