It is a recurring topic on Miami's sports radio shows and the questions about Ryan Tannehill's talent as a starter don't stop coming. Is he accurate enough on passes of 20 yards or more? Can he take the Miami Dolphins to the next level without marked accuracy improvement? These questions come almost invariably each time the subject of the Dolphins comes up in discussion, and more perplexing maybe, is that almost in the same breath, these pundits rave about the great Miami draft of 2015.

Some fans, seems like a minority or perhaps a silent majority, who know better, can not help but to raise an eyebrow and be amazed at the logic of the masses. How can anyone even begin to judge Tannehill's accuracy on the deep pass when he hardly has adequate time for the play to develop? Other than a handful of games last year, the Dolphins often rushed quarterback, had to find his way out of the grasp of defenses.

Free agents have come and gone and so have draft choices, however Miami's selection of a guard, came in the 4th round., which is hardly the spot to fill a position of critical need as one in the offensive line continues to be. Be as it may, the Miami Dolphins were in need to fill several positions on offense and while some of these have been filled during the off season so far, one critical spot still remaining undermanned, is one of the guards. Third year OG Dallas Thomas is slated to start at one of those spots, which is puzzling some analysts including this writer, because expecting different results with Thomas starting, is not realistic. Lost in all the speculation, except to those who frown at Miami's inability to fill one position of need, is the fact that former Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowl Guard Evan Mathis, remains available.

Miami also needed a run stopper after the 2014 campaign, and to the credit of management, they have addressed it and filled it. There was a bit of an overkill when it came to satisfying that need in the opinion of some, with three ready-to-start new defensive tackles joining the team during the Spring and Summer, solidifying the D line in the process with 2 pro caliber tackles, which makes the Dolphins one of the new defensive power houses in the NFL when it comes to stopping the run. The secondary, although improved, still has some remaining questions left to be answered. NFL Analysts will not be able to get a clear idea as to how complete of a defense the Dolphins' will be, until later on this Summer, when pads go on during training camp.

Training camp is just days away for the Miami Dolphins and based on what is seen under the hot South Florida Summer sun, season predictions, praise and criticism, will follow. An Evan Mathis signing is pivotal in the continued development of Ryan Tannehill. There is a lot of anticipation for this season, with fans salivating at the thought of division for and perennial champs of the East, New England, having their hands full protecting their QB from the Dolphins expected rush, time will tell.

I have been a Miami Dolphins fan since 1970. I was able to go to the games at the old Orange Bowl on a regular basis, including some during the perfect season. I have bled aqua and orange ever since, however, I am not blinded by loyalty and I'm able to keep my objectivity even as a fan, because in the end, I want to see the Phins do well.
