Dallas Cowboys first round pick, Byron Jones, was injured in yesterday’s practice. A collision with teammate and cornerback Morris Claiborne left Jones out of the rest of practice and an injured left shoulder. Jones, seconds after the collision, was clinching his shoulder and team doctors had examined him right away.

Initial thoughts from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones were, "We feel like it's not as bad as it could've been and that it may involve a few days here of special attention but over the long but short run this coming week, he should be back out here," (Todd Archer, ESPN.com) that should be comforting for many Cowboys fans.

The Cowboys are of course are going to be cautious with this situation with many defensive backfield players already out, such as Orlando Scandrick and Brandon Carr; who had recently had surgery for a broken right hand. Byron Jones will likely miss practice for the next few days and probably the Cowboys second preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.

More on Byron Jones’ left shoulder injury. Not many people may know that he had missed the last five games of his collegiate football career because of an left shoulder injury that he had sustained, which had also required surgery. There’s no question the Cowboys are going to look at this with a closely magnifying glass.

Update

Jones, Monday morning spoke to the media and talked about his injury, “Initially there was a little weakness,” Byron Jones said, “but I regained my strength pretty quickly.”’ (Todd Archer, ESPN.com). Jones had also said that, he had no problem with any range of motion and that he had regained his strength on his shoulder shortly after the collision.  He is set for an MRI later today.

Side Note

Cornerback and first preseason game stand out, Corey White was also injured on Sunday. He missed some time but returned with a taped ankle. He was not moving well according to many reporters on the field.
