Just two weeks into the NFL Season and it couldn’t have started any more bittersweet for the Dallas Cowboys. Losing their two best offensive players, quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant for a good amount of time of the season has been the biggest story for the Cowboys or perhaps the whole NFC East. Dallas, who are fresh off a victory with their NFC East rival’s the Philadelphia Eagles, face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday afternoon. The Cowboys and Falcons both look to remain perfect in the season by earning a win and leveling themselves at 3-0 record.

Cowboys Offense

Possibly the biggest name to watch out for on Sunday is Dallas Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden, who is filling in for Tony Romo. Weeden was a perfect 7/7 completion against the Eagles this past week, after Romo left the game with a broken clavicle, and the Cowboys are going to need Weeden to repeat where he left off. Expect a heavy run offense for Cowboys against Falcons, they’ll need it in their benefit, especially keeping Falcons offense off the field. Ultimately that is what got the Boys’ the win last week after Romo stepped out, a committee between Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden burned the clock while producing some good runs. Lance Dunbar has been the most reliable man for the Cowboys these past two games, short passes and dump off passes have been vital for moving the chains and opening up the offense. Falcons gave up eight catches for 76 yards to Shane Vereen last week and Dunbar plays a similar role as a passing back, so keep notice of him on the field.

Cowboys Defense

Nobody was expecting that performance from the Dallas’ defense last week against the Eagles, they absolutely held the Eagles offense in check, while they made them commit four turnovers for the game. Last week, yours truly mentioned Rob Marinelli’s defense thrives on turnovers, well that’s what they did against Eagles and that is one of the few things they’ll have to do in order to earn themselves a win. There’s one man who the Cowboys should keep the eye on the most that of course is Julio Jones, who seems like it’s impossible to stop in these first two games. Cowboys will likely use the cornerback and safety help over the top against Jones, just like they did with Odell-Beckham Jr. in week one. Brandon Carr will be guarding Jones and he will need to bring out his best game on Sunday. The most important name on Cowboys defensive side will be Sean Lee. Lee is fresh off the Philly’s game with 14 tackles and one interception, and his play earned him NFC Defensive Player of the Week. His resilient energy, leadership, and play making will be needed, especially for an injury depleted roster.

Keys to win the game

Again this week, the Cowboys running game will be the most important factor for a chance to win the game against the Falcons. Now more than ever, Cowboys will be relying on the run game, since they’re onto to their second string quarterback as their starter now. 20-30 carries will be ideal for the Cowboys committee, which includes Randle and McFadden. Second most important factor will be, of course limiting Falcons receiver on big yardages and end zone touchdowns. Last thing Cowboys need are quick points and avoid being down early. Also, the defense will need to bring the same intensity like they have for the past five quarters.

Prediction

It will be an interesting game nevertheless from a Cowboys fan base standpoint, the game results will give us a better understanding where the Cowboys are just three weeks in and missing their biggest components. Although, this team is a very well coached team. Jason Garrett and Rod Marinelli will find a way to get Cowboys over the Falcons on Sunday afternoon. Cowboys will have their hands full with the Falcons receiving corps, but a few turnovers and running plays will swing the game over to them.

Final Score: Cowboys 24, Falcons 21
