With a playoff spot already assured, the Seattle Seahawks will try to improve the team’s playoff positioning with only two games left in the regular season.

The first of those two contests will come Sunday at CenturyLink Field against the St. Louis Rams.

Like the Seahawks, the Rams have been on a hot streak as of late. St. Louis has only won the team’s last two contests, but it is still a hot streak nonetheless. The Seahawks’ opponent this week doesn’t boast much of a passing game, but the Rams’ rushing attack can be extremely effective.

St. Louis ranks last in the NFL in pass completion, passing yards and touchdowns through the air. This is mainly due to a quarterback group that has seen three different signal callers log game action. Nick Foles, Case Keenum and Sean Mannion have all completed passes for the team, but none has been extremely successful. Foles has seven touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions, while only eclipsing the 200-yard mark in a game twice this season. Keenum has three touchdowns compared to only one interception, but it took him four games to accumulate those stats. Lastly, Mannion has zero starts to his name and has only thrown for 31 yards.

The lack of a significant passing game certainly bodes well for the Seattle defense. The Hawks’ defensive unit will look to shut down the other team’s quarterback for the second consecutive game after holding Johnny Manziel to only 161 yards through the air last week. In the past three games, opposing signal callers have managed only one passing touchdown and have thrown three interceptions.

Instead of relying on the passing game, St. Louis has been dependent on rookie running back Todd Gurley. The first-round pick is the team’s top running back with 1,023 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He’s also the Rams’ fourth-leading receiver and leads the team in yards from scrimmage with 1,204.

The rookie wasn’t active the last time these teams met earlier in the season, so he’ll get his first look at a stingy Seattle rush defense. Dating back to Week 11, no opposing running back has rushed for more than 50 yards against the Hawks. During that span, the team faced the likes of Adrian Peterson and DeAngelo Williams.

On the other side of the ball, Russell Wilson and company will look to maintain a fine run of form that has seen the team score at least 29 points per game over the last six weeks.

During the last five contests, Wilson has completed 74.32 percent of his passes, accumulating 1,420 yards and 19 touchdowns in the process. The Seattle signal caller hasn’t thrown an interception over that span either.

In addition to Wilson, wide receiver Doug Baldwin will look to add to his own impressive touchdown total. The wide receiver has 13 touchdowns on the season, including an eye-popping 10 in his last four games.

Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 1:25 EST.
