Breaking News: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles have announced that they've hired current Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson

Pederson comes from the large Andy Reid tree as he was the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback in 1999 under coach Reid. Pederson then served as the Eagles offensive quality control coach in 2009 and then promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2011. When Andy Reid was fired in Philadelphia in 2012, Pederson then followed Reid to Kansas City being hired as the team's offensive coordinator.

The hiring of Doug Pederson is not a "home-run hire" for the Eagles because of the lack of experience for Pederson, but it is interesting that Jeffrey Lurie and the Eagles are going back to a coach who is as close to being like Andy Reid as anybody else, as well as someone who will credit Reid for everything he has learned. There may be some headscratching after this hire because there has been questions since Andy Reid came to Kansas City about whether or not Doug Pederson actually calls plays for the Chiefs offense. Speculation has been that Pederson is a glorified quarterbacks coach, and Andy Reid is the team's play-caller but Andy Reid shot down that speculation earlier this year admitting that the play calling is occasionally split between Reid and Pederson.

Regardless, the Eagles reached back into their back pocket and went back to the roots of their success and took the shiny red apple off of the Andy Reid coaching tree and tabbed Pederson as their head coach. It will be interesting to see what Pederson can do with Sam Bradford or whoever else is the Eagle's quarterback will be next season, as Pederson has a knack for communicating and developing quarterbacks.
