With Julian Edelman missing a number of games towards the end of last season, Danny Amendola had to step-up for the New England Patriots. With Tom Brady’s safety blanket in Edelman gone, Amendola had to start catching a lot more passes and making a lot more plays.

Amendola is usually good as a secondary option on offense, while sporadic, he’s shown he can make plays for the Patriots when they need him and he’s had to earn the trust of Brady.

Key third down and even longer first and second down situations have become Edelman’s forte, with him out, it became Amendola’s but towards the end of the season, he was clearly banged up.

Amendola underwent knee and ankle surgery earlier on in the offseason but is on his way to recovering from the minor operations.

Amendola feeling positive

Spending the day at ESPN, Amendola was quizzed on a various number of topics over the variety of shows ESPN has. During his time with the NFL Insiders, Amendola said he feels “really good” after undergoing a number of “minor procedures.”

Amendola continued to say that he’s been doing his best to go into the upcoming season, feeling as “fresh and ready” as he can.

He will be ready in time for Patriots training camp where he and the rest of the New England offence will have to do their best work and accommodate Jimmy Garoppolo as he looks set to take over in the absence of Tom Brady due to suspension.

Amendola on Jimmy Garoppolo

Garoppolo has been backed by a number of analysts and players to be successful while he takes Brady’s place. He is likely to have the full range of the Patriots offense on offer and will be put into the best position to succeed.

When questioned about the young quarterback, Amendola said he is a “great player,” who has picked up everything “that Tom (Brady) has taught him” and everything that coach Bill Belichick has “has to offer him.”

Amendola said the team is looking forward to working with Garoppolo and they are “all excited to see where he goes” in the short term and also to see what “the future holds for him.”
